As of 2024-2025, Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) is in the midst of an update to the city's comprehensive greenways plan, focused on implementation. This will include an update to the tally of trail mileage by Marion County township, shown in the graphic here at 2014. Things haven't changed much for the southern three townships since that time.

Full Circle Greenways Master Plan (most recent master plan, released in 2014)
Community Powered Infrastructure - A framework and application for three distinct Indy DPW programs: Tactical Urbanism; Art in the Right-of-Way; and Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Project
The first section of a multi-phase project to reduce vehicle lanes and build toward the Interurban Trail began in late June 2025. The segment of Madison Avenue, from Ray Street to Pleasant Run Parkway is expected in construction through 2026.

As of April 2025, public engagement efforts are beginning within the City of Indianapolis effort to roll-out its "Greenways Strategic Implementation Plan", a tactical plan which builds upon the current Indy Greenways Full Circle Master Plan (completed in 2014).
This is the Southside's opportunity to share our priorities within the City's planning process.

The unused rail route will revert to its original owners (meaning coordination with adjacent properties), and Indy DMD has expressed interest in acquiring the tract for a trail (generally between Warman Ave and about Harding Street).
