Active Engagement for Active Transportation:
The Southside of Indianapolis is a fantastic place to live and work, and we are a well-connected group of neighbors committed to better connecting our community with trails and safer streets--even as the Southside townships have disproportionately low trail mileage compared to other parts of Indy.

We envision a broad network of well-designed trails and pedestrian amenities across the southside of Indianapolis, safely connecting non-motorists to places of importance in our neighborhoods, as supported by a coalition of community support.
Where do we work? The Southside!
Marion County, south of Raymond Street. With strategic connections to trail infrastructure networks in adjacent counties and communities.
The mission of Southside United is to realize our vision through relentless, strategic, and helpful wraparound support for local transportation agencies who can implement critical trail and pedestrian infrastructure.
What do we do? A little of everything!
Come join our team and lend a hand, especially if you have talents or interests in the areas of:
Safer, better connected, and more accessible trails and infrastructure networks are a boon to everyone’s quality of life, no matter one’s identity or location. Investments lift outcomes for an entire community’s public health, economic development, and environmental resilience. Our work and strategies should not limit this all-encompassing benefit from any community member.
Non-partisanship: We want to work with all people who see the potential for these widespread benefits.
Projects are stronger and can be more holistic when they consider a wider scope of community assets and community partners. While some projects will likely only benefit their immediate, local surroundings, most projects should consider previously published regional plans, neighboring amenities, and the opportunity to partner with a variety of jurisdictions.
Completing infrastructure projects often takes an exorbitant amount of coordination, time, and money. Thus, a lot of patience is required for people who must sustain the will to pursue projects across a changing landscape. We will work to be as helpful as possible in all circumstances, refraining from pinning any discouragement on a specific person or group, but instead doubling down on energy for the next opportunity.
