Junior Section Rules

  • The Junior section starts at 6.00 pm and finishes at 7.30 pm (prompt) each Tuesday.

  • The Junior Chess Club meets at the Conservative Club, 20 Bath St, Southport PR9 0DAt.

  • Senior Club members available to help/support training – Karl Nadin, Carl Crane, Paul Dansey and Matt Power. Other members will assist as available.

  • The aim of the club is to cultivate chess skills that may assist general life development.

  • For security parents are to come into the club and sign their children in and speak to an adult in charge. Children are not to be ‘dropped off’ in the car park. Similarly, adults should always come into the club and collect their children at the end of each session.

  • Parents may stay with or leave their children at the club BUT must return by 7.20 pm for 7.30 pm finish.

  • Parents should not leave their cars in the car park unless they are members of the Conservative Club.

  • All children will be supervised; two of the Southport Chess Club members has a CRB check.

  • We have no limit on club membership, however for health and safety reasons we will introduce a waiting list should the need arise.

  • Prospective new members will be offered a ‘taster session’ of up to 3 weeks before joining the club.

  • Subscriptions are due by the 30th September. £15.00 per Junior annually. Plus £1.00 sub each week per junior.

  • We expect all children to show respect to all Juniors and Senior chess players, Showing improper conduct either on or off the club premises, being an annoyance to other club members will be reported to the Secretary and action will be taken.

  • Chess is a particularly quiet game, shouting across the boards whilst others are playing will not be tolerated.

  • Juniors will have opportunities to play in Junior club competitions, to boost confidence and use new chess skills.

  • We have a Junior team in the Merseyside Chess League, Juniors will be play against Senior /Junior players from other clubs.

  • Once sufficient graded games have been completed the Juniors will obtain a National Grading as provided by the English Chess Federation (ECF).

  • A tuck shop and refreshments will be available during club night all monies raised will be used to support the Chess Club.
