Southport Chess Club

Southport Chess Club provides a friendly and supportive environment for chess players of all ages: the Senior Section of the club has members ranging in age from 16 to 80+, and the very active Junior Section caters for children of age 7 years and upwards. New members are always welcome.

We meet every Tuesday evening in the Central Club, 20 Bath Street. The Junior Section commences at 6pm and the Senior Section runs between 7:30pm and 10:30pm.

In the Senior Section of the club you can partake in friendly games against other members with a broad range of ability.

Competitions are held throughout the year ranging from one-night Lightning or Blitz tournaments through to competitions running over several months.

We have two teams in the Merseyside League and we also compete in Merseyside Cup Competitions.

If you are interested in playing Chess on a friendly or competitive basis, just turn up to the Club any Tuesday evening to give it a try. You can attend for three times before deciding to become a Club member.

In the Junior Section of the club structured tuition is provided to develop the chess skills and competences of the members, who also participate in friendly games and competitive tournaments.

We have a team in the Merseyside Junior League, some Junior members play in the Senior teams and we also compete in other tournaments in the region.

The Junior Club is also a a Learning Destination for the Children’s University.
