Recent events have recast a spotlight on the scale of systemic racism in the United States. These wrongful events include the Amy Cooper incident, the shootings of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, and the murders of George Floyd, Tony McDade, and Oluwatoyin Salau. We must recognize the history of racially fueled murders of Black Americans, including Eric Garner, Laquan McDonald, Sandra Bland, Brayla Stone, Philando Castile, Dominique "Rem'mie" Fells, Antronie Scott, Oscar Grant, Merci Mack, Tamir Rice, Elijah McClain, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and countless others.

Systemic racism affects all of us while disproportionately harming and ending Black lives. It is clear now, more than ever, that all communities must come together to begin dismantling racism. We, as members of the Southlake Carroll community, echo the nationwide call for direct action to condemn police brutality and fight systemic racism.

June 6th, 2020: The Progressive Activism Club organized a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest in Southlake Town Square with over 1,000 attendees.

Juneteenth (June 19th, 2020): Several local activists attended an open-mic celebration at Bob Jones Park hosted by local youth to celebrate the holiday and commemorate Southlake's own Black history.

June 27th, 2020: The Progressive Activism Club, Maddy Heymann, and Divya Kumar hosted a Pride x BLM celebration to honor the historic month for the movements and celebrate a future of intersectionality and progress.

July 6th, 2020: SARC uploaded our first post to Instagram, with subsequent virality and news coverage.

July 17th, 2020: We published our demands to Carroll ISD on this website.

These are only the first steps. Through our social media testimonies, media outreach, and extensive demands, we hope to transform Carroll ISD into a safe and welcoming space for all.
