A few thoughts on Strava.
Even if you keep it all to yourself, or use a different app entirely, it can be really useful to see your progress over time as you practice and get fitter. Find some segments that you ride regularly, and see how you are doing competing with yourself. It is a great feeling to put up a PR (personal record) on a difficult climb or technical section.
It's also good motivation to see what your coaches, friends, or teammates are doing. I find it helps get me off the couch, and inspires me to ride bigger than I might do on my own. Or, it's always good for some friendly competition to see who can get and hold the team record.
If you want people to see your rides, you will need to adjust your privacy settings to make your profile and activities visible.
