This section addresses crimes involving fraud, theft, embezzlement, counterfeiting, money laundering, and other financial misconduct. These laws are designed to protect individuals, businesses, and government institutions from economic harm and to maintain the integrity of the state’s financial systems.
Bank Robbery (F)
(Non-Federal)
The unlawful taking or attempted taking of money, assets, or property from a bank by means of force, violence, or intimidation.
The suspect must willfully and knowingly attempt or succeed in robbing a financial institution.
The act must involve the use or threat of force against bank employees or customers.
Use of a weapon or threat of deadly force may elevate sentencing under aggravated robbery statutes.
Attempted Bank Robbery (F)
(Non-Federal)
The willful attempt to take money, assets, or property from a bank through force, violence, or intimidation, regardless of whether the act is completed.
The suspect must knowingly attempt to rob a financial institution.
The act must include the use or threat of force against bank employees or customers.
The attempt does not need to be successful for the charge to apply.
The unlawful taking of money or goods from a business without the consent of the owner through the use of force, threats, or intimidation.
If the value of the stolen goods exceeds $1,000, the offense qualifies as robbery.
If the value is below $1,000, refer to the Shoplifting charge.
The act must involve direct confrontation or coercion of staff or customers.
An attempt to unlawfully take money or goods from a business without the consent of the owner through force, threats, or intimidation.
The suspect must have taken a direct step toward committing the robbery but failed to complete it.
If goods were taken and the value exceeds $1,000, the offense qualifies as robbery.
If the value is below $1,000, refer to the Attempted Shoplifting charge.
The act of concealing the origin of money obtained through criminal activity by making it appear as though it was earned legally.
Example: Using stolen or illegally obtained funds at a casino to make the money appear as legitimate winnings.
Offering, giving, soliciting, or receiving anything of value with the intent to influence the actions, decisions, or judgment of a public official or government employee.
The unlawful taking or misappropriation of money or property by an individual entrusted to manage or monitor it.
Example: A company employee transfers business funds into their personal account for personal use.
Always charged as a felony due to breach of trust and financial intent.
The intentional misrepresentation or concealment of material facts made by one person to another, with knowledge of its falsity and intent to deceive or secure unlawful gain.
Engaging in illegal business activities or obtaining money through extortion, coercion, or other unlawful means. Racketeering often involves organized efforts to control businesses or territories through criminal activity.
The unlawful act of obtaining money, property, or services from another individual through the use of force, intimidation, or threats.
This includes verbal, written, or implied threats to cause harm, damage property, or expose information unless demands are met.
The act of intentionally overcharging a customer for goods or services beyond the listed or agreed-upon price.
This includes charging undisclosed fees or altering pricing contrary to what was stated in a contract or agreement.
Upgraded to a felony if the total amount exceeds $3,000.
The act of refusing to pay for a service that has been provided or rendered.
Example: A person receives a haircut and refuses to pay afterward.
Upgraded to a felony if the value of the service exceeds $300.
