Cycle 180 is a program the team has created to bring bikes to kids of all ages within the Houston area. They have recently been working with Frank Black Middle School in Houston ISD to teach students how to ride bikes as well as provide each of them with cycling equipment they did not have access to before. For some of these students, this is a sport, and for some, this is a mode of transportation that they truly cherish. We are hoping to use the funds to continue purchasing and recycling bicycles into the community in our Cycle 180 Program.
Riders in Recovery is a 12-Step based program helping teens and their families who are dealing with addiction and other self-destructive behaviors. This program enables teens to build self esteem, confidence and physical conditioning to create sustainable recovery. Teens earn their way into the program by showing consistency in recovery, by completing an intensive mountain-bike maintenance internship and must become CPR and First Aid Certified. To enhance fitness and physical conditioning, they will also attend weekly training sessions led by athletes experienced in transforming novice peddlers into confident riders. Finally, to instill the value of commitment, the teens will learn about budgeting time, money and effort that will ultimately allow them to achieve ownership of their own bike. We would like to use these funds to help these riders have access to bicycles, as well as take them on cycling trips throughout the year.
