Local Area Information
Southdown B&B is set in the very rural area of Higher Clovelly in North Devon, and about 2 miles from the unique car-free fishing village of Clovelly - often described as England's prettiest village - and where the only transport allowed is by donkey or sledge! Guests love the stunning scenery and relaxed atmosphere of the area, the friendly local people, and the wonderful Devon Cream Teas! It's a great walking area and there are many stunning walks for all abilities including some of the most rural parts of the South West Coast Path. We're in a great location for exploring North Devon and North Cornwall by car. There are many local gardens to visit, including the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Rosemoor at Torrington. Other local(ish) attractions include Lundy Island, Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum, Hartland Abbey & Gardens, Tapeley Park and Gardens, the Tarka Trail, Appledore, Dartington Crystal, Hartland Quay and the Shipwreck & Smuggling Museum, Milky Way Adventure Park, the North Devon Maritime Museum, the beaches of Westward Ho!, Instow, Bude - and many many more! We are in an ideal location for walking some of the most isolated sections of the SW Coast Path at Clovelly and Hartland, and for guests attending weddings at Clovelly, Hartland Abbey and The Barn. There are several film and TV locations to visit, and, for our German visitors, we are in an ideal location to start your Rosamunde Pilcher tour into Cornwall. Whatever the reason for your visit, we have a selection of maps, guides and leaflets here to help you plan your stay, but the following links may help you before you come, and whilst you're here:
