The South Coast Firefighter Challenge (SCFC) provides opportunity for operational Firefighters and retired Firefighters to display their skills and celebrate the important benefits of participating in recreational activities. We want competitors to experience these benefits while recognising any physical activity entails risk. The SCFC and the host Fire and Rescue Service organising committee strives to reduce these risks; they can never be eliminated.
By registering and purchasing entry, I do hereby acknowledge that;
I intend to participate in the South Coast Firefighter Challenge and realise that participation brings the possibility of injury or illness and I accept this risk regardless of the nature of injury or illness and the physical activity chosen.
I agree that participation in any physical activity and use of any equipment is at my own discretion or judgement on my own experience and competence level.
I understand that by participating I am responsible for any injury as a consequence of these activities and hereby release and hold harmless The South Coast Firefighter Challenge, their directors, employees and volunteers.
I intend to participate in the SCFC and I have discussed the possibility
of adverse effects with a medical professional who is in agreement with my decision to participate.
I confirm that I am a competent Firefighter (or minimum “Safe to Ride”) with a valid annual fitness test or have served for a minimum of 10 years prior to retiring.
(Applicable only to retired Firefighters) I can confirm that I can achieve a minimum VO2 equivalent of 42.3ml/O2/min on the Chester Treadmill Walk Test – the national minimum standard for Firefighter Fitness.
I recognise that the demands of Firefighter Challenges are much greater than the UK annual fitness test and that I have trained adequately for the event in which I am entering.
I confirm that I will bring the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) meeting the requirements set out in the rules and regulations. I understand that if the PPE does not meet the requirements, or the PPE is contaminated I may be prevented from participating.
I understand that if I have not completed the South Coast Firefighter Challenge within 6 minutes, the oncourse referee will prevent me from continuing, this is to reduce risk of heat related illness and injury.
I will also adhere to the safety briefing and understand that said referees have the right to terminate my race at any point if my behaviour falls short of the expectations of the SCFC.
I understand that the SCFC is for Firefighters only; any competitor knowingly allowing, facilitating or encouraging non-firefighters to compete may have their own registration rescinded without refund through association. This is for the safety of every participant and to future proof the SCFC with regards to risk and liability.
Personnel authorised by SCFC may take photographs to be used in future publications and by media organisations. I consent to photographs being taken of me and my family and authorise the South Coast Firefighter Challenge to use them for all media purposes.
