This document is a perpetual work in progress. As I grow and learn, so will this guide. Transitioning is a process, one that technically never ends. Everyone is always changing as they grow older, trans people being no different. Thus, this will encapsulate that change as well.
Please keep in mind that I am one individual who identifies as a binary trans man. I've collected a variety of experiences and knowledge that I've gleaned from other transgender people, but my perspective will always be limited. This is just a culmination of my knowledge, so it relies on you to also contribute where you believe amends must be made. If there are errors, things you believe are insensitive and need revision, moments requiring clarification, or topics you wish addressed, please contact me and let me know southbaytranskidsuvivalguide@gmail.com
Why did you make this?
When I had been in my senior year of high school, I saw that there were a lot of transgender students coming into the high school. In the previous year, I'd gotten in contact with a few local resources that connected me to transgender youth in the area as well. As I met and connected with these kids, many of us shared experiences and gave each other guidance to access different resources that we needed. In a time where this discussion hadn't been as normalized, it had been imperative for us to find each other and provide support. Thus, during my senior year, I created a Google Doc that detailed every aspect of transition that I could possibly think of. That document eventually evolved into this website, which intends to provide as much information, resources, and guidance as possible to answer any questioning or transgender kid's questions as they navigate being transgender in the South Bay.
That being said, my experience is limited. I went to Mira Costa High School, I came out during 2015, and I have a binary female to male experience. I cannot possibly hope to know everything there is to know about every single identity, nor every nook and cranny of the binary trans experience either. Each individual experiences this life in a unique, individualized manner; this is an attempt to shine a light on these experiences and help you find stories and guidance that might resonate with you. If you know of any knowledge that is missing, please, by all means, contact me and let me know so I can add it. You can contact me at the following email: southbaytranskidsurvivalguide@gmail.com
Best of luck to each and every single one of you exploring your identities and trying to live the most authentic version of yourself. You are doing magnificent. I know that it can be incredibly difficult to grow up in this area. Be kind to yourself. You are doing the best that you can given the circumstances that have been provided to you and you deserve to rise above them.
