FAQ

On which frequencies and at what time does SAMMNet operate?

SAMMNet has four scheduled marine weather broadcasts each day.

WEATHER BULLETIN FOR THE HIGH SEAS FOR METAREA VII

This is transmitted on the 20 m band; frequency 14316 kHz (USB) at 0630 UTC and 1130 UTC. A repeat is normally transmitted at 0645 UTC and 1145 UTC. Depending on operator availability and ionospheric propagation, an update or rebroadcast is transmitted between 1500 UTC and 1530 UTC.

WEATHER BULLETIN FOR COASTAL WATERS UP TO 50 NAUTICAL MILES SEAWARD

This is transmitted on the 40 m band; frequency 7120 kHz (LSB) at 0635 UTC and 1135 UTC.

All marine weather bulletins are preceded by a specific call to maritime mobile stations to check into the net, and concluded by a general call to maritime mobile stations, coastal stations and inland stations to check into the net.

Where does SAMMNet get its weather bulletins from?

SAMMNet only transmits officially released marine weather forecasts as provided by the South African Weather Service (SAWS). SAMMNet does not modify, interpret or generate weather forecasts.
