Awards and Grants

WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY MORE GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR. PLEASE CONSIDER APPLYING FOR THESE GRANTS DURING THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR.

All letters of interest for the Dr. Peggy Williams Grant, Patricia Burnette Rising Star Award,

and Classroom Library Grant received by the end of the day on March 13, 2020 will be considered.

The recipients will be notified at the end of March, and will be honored at our last meeting of the 2019- 2020 school year.

IRA Exemplary Reading Program Award

The IRA Exemplary Reading Program Award is sponsored by the International Reading Association to recognize reading and language arts programs at all grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school). We encourage all schools to consider submitting a nomination.

SSRC Classroom Library Grant

Classroom teachers with 0-4 years of experience are invited to apply for the SSRC Classroom Library Grant of $250 to support the development of your classroom library. The recipient of this award will also receive a 1 year membership to the South Suburban Reading Council. We encourage you to please consider submitting a nomination for this grant.

The winner will be honored at our May meeting.

SSRC Rising Star Award

The SSRC Rising Star Award will be awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student in education. This recipient will be awarded $250 towards the development of their classroom library as well as a 1 year membership to the South Suburban Reading Council. All nominations must be made by the undergraduate's college professor/instructor.

The winner will be honored at our May meeting.

SSRC Dr. Peggy Williams Grant

Professionals in literacy instruction (i.e. teachers, reading specialists, etc.) are invited to apply for the Dr. Peggy Williams grant of $300 to support professional development/continuing education in literacy. We encourage you to please consider submitting an application for this grant.

The winner will be honored at our May meeting.

Each year SSRC recognizes a local individual volunteer, agency, or institution that has made significant contributions in the field of literacy. We encourage you to please consider submitting a nomination.
