Ichha-Moti (Film/Drama) - Moti (means pearl) is a young girl who lives on the outskirts of Kolkata near the Bangladesh border. River Icchamoti runs parallel to Moti's village. Her fascination regarding the people of Bangladesh who lives on the other side of the river grows with her age. She dreams of living with the people of Bangladesh one day. The happiest day of her life is the day of Durga visarjan when the Indo-Bangladesh border is removed for a few hours and the people from both sides can interact with each other. They come down with food and exchange happiness with Indian people and the same happens on the other side. Moti has started believing that people on the other side is sweeter than the people of her own country. Life moves on as she falls in love with a young Indian boy who is also a very good folk singer. Slowly the boy comes to know about Moti's fascination of living on the other side of the river. Moti is from a higher cast and her father refuses to accept her lover who is an orphan. But they promise each other that they might separate but they will love each other for life long. Soon Moti gets a marriage offer from a Bangladeshi boy from a business family. Moti's dream of living on the other side of the river has finally come true. She leaves behind her lover as she crosses the icchamoti river but she promises him to visit her lover on every Durga visarjan day. After a few years, we see Moti not so happy after her marriage. Her freedom is lost, she stays within the inner circle of her husband's house, can't sing with her husband as he doesn't like music & song. He is more of a business person who like numbers more than anything. This time she waits eagerly for the Durga puja. And reaches the river bank very early. Somehow her husband sees her crossing the river alone and ask someone to follow her. Moti confronts her condition to her Indian lover. She doesn't want to go back now. But that is not possible so she is forced to go back with a promise that her Indian lover will think of a better solution than running away from her husband. On the other hand, when Moti's husband comes to know about her secret lover he breaks down, he loses focus in his business, starts drinking. One afternoon when moti's husband suddenly returns home early he finds Moti writing a letter. He hides for the moment, later in the night when Moti was deeply asleep, he opens her diary and starts reading her letter, which says that on this durga visarjan day she will run away. During the durga utsav moti's lover receives her letter. But ma durga has some other plans. The Visarjan day turns out to be a rainy day. Moti is getting impatient, her husband can clearly notice her restlessness. We see elders are playing sindur utsav on the visarjan morning on the backdrop of a heavy rain. On the other side Moti's lover is on his way to the riverside, traveling to reach the bank of ichhamati as soon as possible. He is totally drenched in water. But he keeps walking. In the sindur utsav Moti's husband can notice how she is avoiding the sindur play, her mind is somewhere else. Anger takes over her husband and he calls his assistant. By the time Moti's lover reaches the bank of Ichhamoti it is high tide. River icchamati is furious. Durga idol is waiting in the rain, her face is getting washed with the redness of the sindur, giving a clear indication on the upcoming danger. Moti's lover is looking for a boat, boatman says 'this is ichha mati, we must not touch her when she is furious, she can take everything inside her'. Hearing this he becomes more worried. Finally we see Moti with a black umbrella, white saree in which she played the sindur utsav secretly comes to the river bank in the darkness of the stormy night. She looks like ma durga. Suddenly she faces her husband with a double barrel gun in his hand. But to her surprise her husband supports her. In his confrontation he says that he has failed to give her the freedom. Loving someone in a cage is not love but slavary. It is the freedom that is more important which her lover has given her. So her true love is her lover not her husband. She must leave and today no one can stop her. He shows her a boat that he has arranged for her to cross the river. But as they start moving towards the boat we hear the sound of a moving crowd. Moti's husband stays back to tackle the crowd and Moti moves on the boat, rows into the darkness of the river and soon vanishes into the roaring water of icchamati. Early next morning the durga which was waiting all night for visarjan is finally pushed into the water. We see the Lover and the husband are still waiting at the banks of their respective country. Two possible ending 1. we suddenly hear a scream of a lady, calling Moti's name. we see Moti's face half-submerged in the river water just like we see Ma durga after visarjan. 2. we see some one approaches the husband saying 'lets go now, she must have reached safely' on the other side the lover is being convinced saying she must have changed her mind. And then we see moti's face in the river water submerged. the end
