S.O.U.P. hosts and/or participates in events such as community hangouts, skill-shares, clothing swaps, meals, educational sessions, parties/festivals, and outreach. Check our calendar below to see what we have going on!
Our events/meetings are open to all LGBTQIA+ members. We invite LGBTQIA+ allies to some but not all of our events/meetings. We do this to maintain spaces where queer folks feel comfortable expressing themselves with others who share their struggles and experiences. Allies are always welcome to support us in other ways!
We have regular biweekly organizational meetings at Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry. Our working groups also collaborate on the planning and execution of events and projects in additional online and offline meetings/spaces.
We are a decentralized group and use a flexible decision making process based on consent first and consensus when consent cannot be reached. Majority voting is used for smaller, trivial decisions.
To become an official organizational member with full voting-rights, we ask that you engage with one of our "Membership Buddies" and attend three meetings. After three meetings and agreeing to our contract of values, you may be granted membership. Official membership/voting is only open to LGBTQIA+ community members.
We amplify racialized / marginalized voices in the group, and value empathy and "I" statements in our interactions with each other.
