WHAT IS A SOUNDCLASH?
Born in Jamaica in the 1950’s and then exported around the world, a sound clash is one of the most unique music competition formats today – and for good reason. Initially, a sound clash was about a music competition between portable sound systems, and their special records as well as MCs. This format evolved over the years and contributed to modern day Club Culture influencing various styles and genres including; Dancehall, Hip Hop, DJ Music Festival, EDM, Electro, Amapiano are all by-products of the SoundClash cultural impact.
OUR CONCEPT FOR KIGALI
With this new format, we are building on the origins of the sound system and sound clash culture, taking it to the next level for all global music citizens based in Rwanda. On a monthly basis, we will carefully hand-pick DJ’s, music selectors and curators to compete for glory and in doing so, sustain, maintain and educate on an exciting aspect of club culture that spans decades & continents. Expanding the original concept of a sound clash, we will focus on contrasting genres, sub-cultures and different styles, to take the audience on a musical journey around the world. In addition, we will gradually introduce other elements to the “clash” format, offering a contrast and friendly competition of drinks/food, arts and dance from different cultural backgrounds
