My question: What audio format (e.g. mp3, ogg, etc.) is most friendly to cpu and battery consumption on mobile devices? I use them only for sound effects, and there's no need for simultaneous playbacks.

As far as I know, there will be not much difference, as Android uncompresses the audio files before putting them into the SoundPool, in order to be able to quickly play them afterwards. That's also the reason that you cannot put very many (or large) sounds into a sound pool without running out of memory.

After the latest software patch verizon put out for the galaxy s6. I can no longer access sound quality and effects. Under advanced, in sounds and notifications. I can't use the equalizer or sound alive anymore when listening to my music. Its like the update deleted it. You can click on it but nothing happens. Please fix or help verizon.

The only thing you can disable is sound alive. Which is located in the sound quality and notifications menu. Which i can't even access. I tried diabling then enabling, still doesnt work. Also, sound effects and notifications isnt an app. Its in the settings of the phone.

Making sure that the sound quality is superb is what we want for you. A software update is supposed to enhance your phone, not hinder. Let's figure out a resolution for you. Thank you for the steps that you've tried. I want to step back just a bit so I fully understand the issue at hand. You are talking about the sound quality being an issue. Can you please describe what happens with the sound when listening to music? (For example; is it muffled or is it too soft?) When you are in the Settings >> Sound and Vibration >> Sound quality and effects. In this screen, what options are you able to click on?

No this issue has nothing to do with sound quality. As stated before, when going into the setting of the phone>> sound and vibrations>> then sound quality and effects, under advanced. We can't access the option, sound quality and effects, it won't even open. So i no longer have access to sound alive, the equalizer when listening to music, or the option to the high quality upscale anymore. The sound quality and effects option in the settings no longer opens. The latest update broke it.

A mosquito ringtone 11kHz. Nice to put on your phones or computers and piss people off with. They wont know where the hell its coming from. Very high pitch ringing sound, sounds just like that ringing you get in your ear sometimes. Nice for pranks.

I used audacity with an internal mic to record this. Its good quality though. i just dialed some numbers on my house phone with the dialtone at the beginning. Its very clear there might be some background noise though.

The waterphone is responsible for most of those spooky sounds you hear during a suspenseful horror movie scene. Classic horror or Halloween audio at its best. Also called ocean harp, or AquaSonic waterphone.

@Joosy Did you ever end up finding a solution to this problem, as I have exactly the same issue. The sound and music buttons are both 'ON' and the volume up on my computer but no sound at all. I check with other apps on my computer and the sound works fine, just not in the game. So frustrating.

this issue had nothing to do with turning on the sounds because it was always on but once its running on the background and then you start to play later again, it doesnt have sound. Close it and then start again and it will be solved.

On my new S21, I can't find the setting to change the sound effect used while touching numbers on the phone dialing keypad. I know how to turn sound effects for dialing on or off, but it seems choosing the actual sound effect is nowhere to be found. I changed the sound of the ringtone, but the touch keypad sound is not in the same setting. It's stuck on this stupid drip sound effect for every number I hit.

Interesting. So you don't get complete control over the keypad sound? I used Retro for general notification, like plugging in the charger, but didnt know it was a package deal with keypad drop sound for dialing. How odd.

Thank you, @nopen1278 . I was having the same problem with my S20-Ultra. I changed the system sounds back to Galaxy and now I have the classic number tones when I dial a number. Apparently the "Fun" option changes your dialing keypad to sound like some squeaky toy?? I was dreading making a phone call! You saved my sanity.

Yeah it is a real need indeed. I like to listen to my own music while playing game and I like to hear the sound effects in the game but not as aloud as my music goes. So I like to level the volume of the sound effects down a bit while my music stays loas as I like. A volume setting would be great.

I agree with Nittany Lion. I use to play the game completely silent because the sound effects are too loud. But now i am shooting some videos like tutorials, and i need to keep the sound on. The sound effects need a bit adjustment, or better if we have our option to turn it down and not left with only silencing it.

I havet the same setup with ATV, the only sound coming thru My bt headphones is the intervall starting / ending sound via companion , the in game sound comes from the TV. Would Love to have all the zwift ingame sound coming via bluetooth with companion. Any fix out there?

Idea for this instructable came after giving some thought to free sound effects available online. Free sound effects like applause, opening and closing of a door, laser shot, wind, camera click, switch sound, etc. are required for creating presentations, apps, devices, etc.

There are two ways to get these. One is to find free online that are free for commercial use or the second to record your own. Some sounds are artificially generated like sound of a laser shot (Well! Actual laser has no sound! So it is bound to be artificial). Others are natural like wind, sound of leaves, chirping of birds, applause, mouse click, etc. This instructable is about the latter class of sounds - natural sounds.

A mobile phone's microphone is designed to be sensitive enough to catch user's sound with highest clarity. With experimentation it was known that a mobile can record faintest sounds with clarity. It is to be kept in mind that the recorded sound will be mono aural but this should not be a limitation in most situations. Though any mobile should work, a mobile of good quality will produce better results. And the mobile should have a voice recorder application.

Audacity is the best open source software required for the purpose i.e. editing the recorded sound. In most cases editing will consist only of increasing sound volume, adding metadata (artist, genre, etc.), and saving to desired sound format.

Two sounds effects were recorded and edited. These sounds are used for USB in and USB out for my laptop. You can judge the sound quality by just listening to them. It was simple to record. I just brought my mobile close to a plug and just inserted a 3 pin plug top in of a normal electricity supply socket and saved the file. For the second sound I removed the plug and again saved the file. The sounds were recorded using sound recorder application of Nokia Asha 310. Sound editing was done solely with Audacity.

In PowerPoint, animations are not the same as transitions. An animation affects a single slide. A transition animates the way one slide changes to the next. For information about adding and removing transitions, go to Add transition effects to your PowerPoint presentation with your mobile device.

I think it would be nice for iOS to have the ability to adjust the volume of VoiceOver sounds, as many times I've found the sounds to be too loud for my liking.

Also, the haptic feedback option would be nice, I think, for those who wanted it. These aren't long vibrations I speak of, they're just very quick vibrations that last maybe a couple milliseconds. They just happen when you tap something, scroll, or move screens, to help you navigate, alongside or in place of speech. They don't make as much noise as sounds do when using the speaker, the vibrating motors in these devices are usually very quiet and well made.

That sounds like a good idea for IOS. I have never experienced the vibration feedback, because I have a nexus 7 tablit. I am sure that would not be hard to pull off. I would contact Apple if I were you. Let us know what they say. Have a good day.

Doesn't the volume control, accessible via the rotor if one enables it, turn down the sounds? It may turn VO down also but one can't have eveverything!

I wouldn't care about sound vibrations to replace sounds since I'm not always holding the phone when I manipulate it. And I can't quite understand why the sounds are objectionable if the VO voice isn't? Just put on earplugs!

Just my $0.02-worth!

Yes, the rotor controls the speech rate but not the volume. To change the VO volume, under setting< sounds make sure change with is set to on. Then while VO is speaking, raise or lower the volume using the buttons on the side of the phone.

The VO sound effects can be muted under the VO settings. If you want to lower the VO sound effects volume, you will need to raise or lower the ring volume. I really wished there was a separate volume control for the VO sound effects.

Can anyone please confirm this when using the ipod multitasking controls (double clicking the home button twice). The controls cause annoying sound effects (beeping noises when playing/pausing/next/previous). I have tried this on other apps with no issues. This ONLY happens when the ipod controls are used in Spotify.

many thanks for the confirmation jvanderb. I'm surprised this doesn't get more attention. Ipod controls are a great way to access your music without interrupting your workflow or having to background your app. I'm not even sure if these sounds effects are intended. It seems like such an easy fix.

The intention of these sounds is to give feedback what just happened if you use the remote control button on an Apple iPhone headset. It has long been a frustration for me to tell whether I just paused a track or if I switched to the next track, which just happened to start quietly. The fast forward/rewind commands are also almost impossible to tell if you made correctly without any feedback. 0852c4b9a8
