Comedian, Presenter & Author
Sammy J is an Australian comedian, author, composer and broadcaster. He's performed around the world, had a sitcom on Netflix, is one half of the man/puppet comedy duo "Sammy J & Randy", hosted the ABC Radio Melbourne breakfast show and created viral satirical sketches and songs on politics, parenting, and everything in between.
He's basically had more career eras than Taylor Swift. And their combined tour revenue last year was over two billion dollars.
After dropping out of his law degree, Sammy J won the Best Newcomer award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. His albums have received three ARIA nominations for Best Comedy Release, and he gained a national following with his satirical series “Playground Politics”. His solo show, "Hero Complex", won Best Comedy at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and a Helpmann Award nomination. His weekly satirical sketches on the ABC ran for five years with millions of views online and an AACTA nomination for best comedy program and performer.
His most recent live tours include "The Kangaroo Effect" and "Symphony in J Minor", which was recorded for a Paramount+ live special at the Malthouse Theatre.
In 2025 his debut musical, "Fiasco: A Burke & Wills Musical", played to packed houses and culminated in a Green Room Award for Outstanding New Australian Music Theatre writing and a "Living Legend" award at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Collaborating with Heath McIvor, "Sammy J & Randy" received the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show at the 2010 Melbourne Comedy Festival. Their acclaimed live shows have taken them from the Sydney Opera House to London’s West End and multiple Montreal comedy galas. Their musical sitcom, “Sammy J & Randy in Ricketts Lane”, premiered on ABC TV before launching in the USA & Netflix UK, and was nominated for three AACTA awards.
As a composer, Sammy J has written songs for stage and screen and scored the original soundtrack for “Ricketts Lane” and “Sammy J’s Playground Politics”. His song "Pink Clouds" was arranged and performed with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and his country music album "Buster J: Cross Country" succeeded in utterly baffling the entire population of Nashville, who have banned him from ever visiting again.
His debut middle-grade novel "The Long Class Goodnight" was published by Hardie Grant in 2023.
Away from the comedy world, Sammy J’s MC skills have seen him host award shows, interview politicians, and inject much-needed humour into corporate events. He regularly runs workshops in schools, composes original songs for special events, and narrates educational content.
Sammy J is a proud Ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters and Oxfam, and has travelled to South Africa and PNG to witness their work firsthand. In 2023 he broadcast live on radio for twenty-four hours straight to help raise money for SecondBite.
Still, Sammy's biggest project remains unfinished. In 2008, he started “The 50 Year Show”, a comedy spectacular that will run every five years until 2058. The show continues in 2028.

Aaron Wyatt is a Noongar man, violist, composer and conductor from Perth, Western
Australia. He is currently an assistant lecturer at The Sir Zelman Cowen School of
Music at Monash University and completing a PhD with a research focus on
animated graphic notation.
He has played in a wide variety of ensembles across many different genres, and is a
long term member of the award winning Decibel New Music ensemble. As well as
performing with the ensemble, he is the developer behind the Decibel ScorePlayer
app, the group’s cutting edge, animated graphic notation software for the iPad. An
emerging conductor, he was nominated for a Helpmann Award for his role as
musical director of the premiere season of Cat Hope’s opera, Speechless, and is the
director of Ensemble Dutala, Australia’s first First Nations chamber ensemble. An
advocate for Indigenous classical music and musicians, he premiered Deborah
Cheetham Fraillon’s work, Nanyubak, for viola and orchestra as a soloist with the
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and during a conducting engagement with them he
became the first Indigenous Australian to conduct one of the state symphony
orchestras in concert. He has since gone on to work with the ASO, SSO, WASO, and
conducted the premiere of the first opera in Noongar, Gina Williams’ and Guy
Ghouse’s Koolbardi Wer Wardong with the WA Opera.
As a composer he has been a participant in the Ngarra-Burria First Peoples
composer program, writing for Ensemble Offspring. He has written for the Monash
Academy Orchestra, the Monash Art Ensemble, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra,
Homophonic!, the CSO Chamber Ensemble, and conducted his work, The Coming
Dawn, to open WASO’s 2024 season. He has also written a number of electro-
acoustic works, using a mix of traditional and animated graphic notation for Decibel,
GreyWing Ensemble, Ensemble Dutala, the ANAM Set and for Kyla Matsuura-
miller’s Freedman Fellowship project, Three Conversations. As artist in residence
with Speak Percussion, he premiered his first long form work, Digital Echoes, in the
2024 Melbourne Fringe.
AMEB & MSO First Nations Composer in Residence 2025/26
James Henry is an in-demand composer and sound designer known for blending traditional Aboriginal and contemporary music genres. His diverse skill set has led to compositions for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia Choir, and musical direction roles for major events such as the Dreamtime at the G opening ceremonies and Melbourne Festival’s opening ceremony, Tanderrum. He has also composed for various theatre and dance productions. In 2022, he was nominated for Best Documentary Score at the AACTA Awards for his work on Freeman.
The strength in James’ music lies in his versatility. As both a singer/songwriter and covers performer, he has toured nationally as a solo artist and internationally as a featured performer with the Black Arm Band and Buried Country. His work in Indigenous communities has focused on reviving languages through song, and his recent fellowship involved studying traditional Aboriginal music and exploring ways to respectfully integrate it into contemporary genres.
James continues to walk the fine line between cultural innovation and sensitivity, producing works that span from techno to full orchestral compositions. As a singer/songwriter, he draws inspiration from 1960s pop, rock, and folk artists like The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel. His carefully crafted songs aim to educate, inspire, and entertain, and his relaxed yet engaging stage presence fosters a personal connection with audiences, breaking the barrier between performer and listener.
