Dr. Soumya Prakash Rana

Soumya Prakash Rana is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at The University of Manchester (UoM), Manchester, UK, working in field of radar principles  analysis and classification. Dr. Rana is also Visiting Fellow at London South Bank University (LSBU) and Scientific Team member of  UBT Srl, Italy.

Prior to that he worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at London South Bank University (LSBU), London, UK, co-sponsored with UBT Srl, Italy [from February 2020-February 2023], during that period his research work was focused on the field of Artificial Intelligence applied to microwave imaging data for breasts lesion detection and classification.

Dr. Rana has completed his PhD from London South Bank University, London, UK on a project with the team of Biomedical Engineering (BiMEC) research group on Machine Learning Techniques for Gait Recognition under the Supervision of Prof. Sandra Dudley, School of Engineering, London South Bank University. The work carried out here is part of the Digital Agent Networking for Customer Energy Reduction (DANCER) project, funded by the UK EPSRC Energy Efficiency in Buildings programme. He received his Bachelor (B. E.) and Master (M. Tech) Degree from The University of Burdwan and West Bengal University of Technology, India in 2009 and 2012 respectively from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

He worked as a junior and senior research fellow for three years and five months (March, 2013- August, 2016) at Jadavpur University, Indian on Content Based Image Retrieval. The project was funded by "University Grants Commission Basic Scientific Research (UGC-BSR) - The objective of the BSR scheme is to provide opportunities to meritorious candidates to undertake advanced studies".

His research interest includes human physiological analysis, localisation, gait analysis, machine learning, pattern recognition, big data analysis, deep learning, image processing, energy optimisation in smart buildings, renewable energy technology, and Computer-aided Diagnosis using Machine Learning/AI for smart health.
