Dr. Soumitra Ghosh

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

Before joining IIT (BHU), I spent nearly three years as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Research Group at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), Trento, Italy. During my time at FBK, I served as the Lead Developer for the NLP Work Package of the EU-funded IDEA4RC project, working under the supervision of Dr. Alberto Lavelli on multilingual information extraction from unstructured clinical data using state-of-the-art NLP techniques.

Returning to India after this enriching journey, I am excited to embark on a new chapter in teaching, research, and collaboration.

I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Patna in 2023, under the supervision of Prof. Asif Ekbal and late Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya. My doctoral dissertation, titled "Affective Analysis of Distress, Offensive Content, and Personality," focused on the intersection of emotion, language, and social computing.  Prior to my Ph.D., I completed M.Tech. in Computer Science from Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, Ranchi, in 2014.

My research interests lie broadly in Deep Learning, and Natural Language Processing with a particular focus on:
