EuroSoTL Special Interest Group
Business education shapes the leaders, decision-makers, and practitioners who influence policies, economies, organisations, and communities. As such, business schools operate in a highly regulated and scrutinised environment - balancing expectations from external accreditors and professional bodies, demonstrating societal and educational impact, and responding to increasing calls for responsible, ethical, and sustainable leadership. Given this complexity and the far-reaching societal impact of our work, how we teach - and how we inquire into and improve our teaching - has never been more important.
At the same time, the very notion of “business” is evolving. Purpose, ethics, sustainability, and people-centred approaches are reshaping the landscape of organisations and the expectations placed upon future graduates. Our pedagogies must evolve accordingly. Inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning are vital in helping educators navigate these shifts, and SoTL provides the tools to rethink, evaluate, and re-imagine our practice with rigour and intention.
There is a pressing need to articulate and strengthen a shared foundation for SoTL in business education - one that honours local institutional contexts while also contributing to a global set of principles that can guide the development, recognition, and advancement of our discipline. The momentum generated within our community signals that this is the right moment to establish a dedicated space for collaboration, co-creation, and collective leadership in SoTL.
This Special Interest Group brings together colleagues who are passionate about exploring and advancing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
Our SIG aims to support colleagues at every stage of their SoTL journey - from those beginning to explore inquiry-based practice to those already contributing to advanced conversations and research.
