SortHK helps people in Hong Kong understand how to recycle or dispose of everyday items.
You can identify an item with a photo or search for it by name, see the relevant Hong Kong disposal guidance, follow any preparation steps, and find nearby collection points that accept that type of item.
If something is not working or you think SortHK gave an incorrect result, please contact:

When reporting a problem, please include:
What item you were trying to identify
Whether you used Photo Scan, Search, or Barcode
What result SortHK showed
What you expected instead
Your iPhone or iPad model, if relevant
Your SortHK app version, if known
Please do not send sensitive personal information.
SortHK uses a deterministic, source-backed rules system for Hong Kong recycling and disposal guidance.
If you believe a result is incorrect, outdated, or unclear, please email us with the item and the result you received.
We review reported issues and update SortHK's guidance when reliable source information supports a change.
Photo Scan uses AI to help identify what an item is.
The AI does not decide how the item should be recycled or disposed of. Once an item is identified, SortHK applies its Hong Kong-specific rules to determine the result.
For best results:
Keep the item clearly visible
Use good lighting
Avoid covering important parts of the item
Try photographing the whole object rather than a very small detail
If Photo Scan cannot identify the item, you can use Search instead.
SortHK limits AI photo identification to help keep the service available and prevent abuse.
Each app instance can use up to 10 AI photo scans per Hong Kong day.
The allowance resets at midnight Hong Kong time.
Search, Barcode, Nearby, and normal recycling guidance are not affected by the photo-scan limit.
You can search using familiar everyday names such as:
Mouse
Milk carton
Glass jar
Rechargeable battery
Toothpaste tube
If an item has multiple possible meanings, SortHK may ask you to choose the closest match.
If you cannot find an item, please send us the name you searched for. It may be added in a future update if SortHK can map it reliably to existing Hong Kong guidance.
SortHK shows collection points that are compatible with the item or recycling stream you are viewing.
A nearby location is not automatically shown just because it is geographically close — SortHK first checks whether the location is suitable for that type of item.
Opening hours, access conditions, and programme information may change. Check the collection point's latest information before making a special trip.
SortHK only requests camera access when you use Photo Scan.
If camera access has been denied, you can change it in:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → SortHK
You can still use Search without camera access.
Location is used to help find nearby compatible collection points.
SortHK does not require location access to search for items or view recycling guidance.
If location access has been denied, you can change it in:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → SortHK
You can also choose a location manually in SortHK.
SortHK supports:
English
Traditional Chinese
Simplified Chinese
