My iPhone 12 Pro Max only vibrates when a call comes in, there is no ringtone sound at all. I went into the Settings > Sounds & Haptics > and checked the ringer and alerts. the ringer was at the high end, still no sound. How else can I make adjustments to get a loud ringtone instead of vibrating, which is also not so loud to hear?

I am at a loss . . . have read all the suggestions on the iPhone 12 ringer and nothing works. I have called Apple and they went through settings and suggested going to Best Buy to check out the phone. All is fine. But it is not. At times it does not ring at all, the same with text. I just happen to look at the phone screen and see the missed calls or texts. I wish I had never upgraded to the 12 as it has been a nightmare and none of the updates have done a thing for the ringer. Any suggestions, please let me know.

I give up . . . have done all that I can to get my ringer to stay loud and it will for a few calls and then lose the volume. I am so sorry that I had upgraded to the iPhone 12 . . . I have missed so many calls and text . . I had called Apple several times then they recommended going to Best Buy for them to run a computer check on the phone which I did; nothing wrong with phone supposively but it sure falls short of the usual reliable products of Apple.

1) This thread's main issue, as they completely fail to understand that voice calls have a much higher priority on our attention than written messages. Let's face it, when people have something urgent they will call by voice, because they know that answering text messages is something most people do "at their own convenience". They even missed the boat with recognizing that we might want to be notified when we receive messages from certain people (like our own immediate team) but not from anybody else or worse... some of those extremely spammy group chats. They need to give us the ability to choose whether to be notified by text chat, and regardless of choice give us the ability to flip the choice for specific people or group chats.

2) Another big (but unrelated) miss that they just won't let us have a SMALL window for team, like old IM apps used to do. Just show a list of names of recent chats, an icon to show if there are messages pending (or a call missed), and the text of the selected chat. It would be so simple to implement such a compact interface, but nope, although they've promised it... years have passed and nothing.

I have my headset set as the audio device for Teams. Before, this didn't affect whether my laptop speakers would play the ringtone when I got a call, but since a few weeks ago it would stay silent and I would only be able to see I was getting a call from the pop up notification.

So in Settings > Devices, there is a section to set your Audio device, which I still have as my headset. But if you scroll down, there is a section called "Secondary Ringer" and I have set that to my laptop speakers.

I just encountered the same issue.

Teams is working just fine, except for no ringtone in my speakers when receiving calls or any dial tone when calling someone. just silence and then all of the sudden they answer.

On iOS when the screen is locked, video calls display a notification not a ringtone*. Display notifications for your lock screen from*  iPhone Settings > Signal > Notifications > under the Alerts section select Lock Screen.

There are a variety of ring tones and notification sounds that most phones come with, plus you can (or should be able to) add your own - pretty much any audio file.

Also, sorry to be basic, but - have you checked the volume settings? And that the phone isn't in silent or "do not disturb" mode?

Get a Fitbit or other connected watch. I have a Fitbit Versa3. Calls come in on the phone and my watch vibrates and displays the caller where you can answer or reject from the watch (I reject a lot!). You can set what apps you want notifications from the phone to show up on the watch. They will vibrate and display a banner for a few moments. I've turned off my ringtone completely on my phone except for one group for family and frequent contacts. It has helped my phone anxiety a lot.

Here are a few suggestions you can try to address the issue:

Volume Adjustment: Ensure that the volume is turned up to an appropriate level for ringtones and notifications. On most Android devices, you can adjust the volume by pressing the physical volume buttons or by going into the Settings app and adjusting the volume settings there.

Vibration or Haptic Feedback: Enable vibration or haptic feedback along with the sound notifications. This way, even if the user cannot hear the sound, they can still feel the vibration or haptic feedback when a call or notification comes in. You can find these settings in the Sound or Notifications section of the phone's Settings.

Customized Vibrations: Some Android devices allow you to set custom vibration patterns for different types of notifications. Check if this feature is available on the user's phone and create distinct vibration patterns for calls and different types of notifications. This way, the user can identify the specific type of notification based on the vibration pattern.

LED Notification Light: If the user's phone has an LED notification light, ensure that it is enabled. The LED light can provide a visual indicator for incoming calls and notifications. In the phone's Settings, look for options related to LED notifications and configure them as needed.

Third-Party Apps: Explore third-party apps specifically designed for people with hearing impairments. These apps can provide additional customization options and features to enhance notifications, such as flashing the screen or using visual alerts.

Accessibility Settings: Android devices offer various accessibility settings that can assist users with hearing impairments. Go to the Accessibility section in the phone's Settings and explore options like Hearing enhancements, Audio balance, or Sound amplifier. These settings can help tailor the audio output to the user's specific needs.

If the above steps do not sufficiently address the issue, it may be beneficial to consult with a hearing specialist or consider alternative communication methods, such as using text messages or video calls, to ensure effective communication with the user.

I don't know when this issue started because I usually have it on vibrate/silent, but last night I put my phone on normal mode with the ringer set to 100% and yet when someone called me at 3am because they were in a car accident I couldn't hear it. They called me 10 times but my phone barely made a whisper. I can hear the ringtone but it sounds like its at 5% not 100%. It doesn't matter if I set it to 90 or 100, but the ringtone is very quiet.

anyone know what the heck is going on? Why would my phone do that? I've had Android phones since the very first readily available one (the tmobile G1) and the only times I missed an important call was when I stupidly had the phone on silent mode. but this time its the phone that let me down...I didn't have it set on silent.

Now I have family members upset at me and I can't trust this phone to do something as simple as RING when someone calls you. The most basic function that phones have been able to do since the first cell phone came out and samsung has failed. But hey when I logged into this site the chime that asked if it was me was very loud and clear....so I guess you got something right, just not the basics.

@freeman93: I'm sorry to hear that you have encountered this issue. Please try heading to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume, and make sure that the Ringtone slider is at a suitable level. Now, head to the Phone app > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Settings > Call alert and ringtone > Vibrate while ringing > On. The vibration against a flat surface can be quite loud, and can help to alert you to any incoming calls if you're asleep.

I've searched everywhere for a solution and nothing has worked. My time zone and time are correct, a ringtone is set, I'm showing as available, yet still I'm missing calls. I have my headphones on so that's where I'd prefer calls to ring but even external speakers would be okay.

3) Especially if this is a new Zoom Phone account - Have any calls to your Zoom User account with Zoom phone ever worked? What approximate percentage of calls to the Zoom Phone user account are failing? Are you only expecting calling between two Zoom users or from PSTN or other off-net callers?

By chance are you in meetings a lot using Zoom? There is a setting that mutes call notifications if you are in a meeting. The other thing I would look at is your call handling within the web portal and ensure that Zoom applications and your desk phone are both turned on in call handling.

For Zoom Meetings there is ability to be a Basic or Licensed (Pro) -- this provides access to Zoom Video meetings including any associated audio conferencing dial in plan for your company (This is different from Zoom Phone). For Zoom Phone, you must have an appropriate dialing plan to allow external calling, as well as a phone number assigned.

Are you running the Zoom desktop client? In the top navigation bar do you see an icon for Zoom Phone similar to below, and under the dial pad do you have any options to set your caller ID? (NOTE: IF you do please just confirm or deny: please do NOT post a photo here without removing any personally identifiable information such as phon numbers, names, etc)

If your company's IT group set up Zoom Phone they are responsible to assign you a calling plan and phone number. Typically once you have appropriate licensing and a phone number assigned you should be able to start placing calls.

I'm beginning to suspect the word "ring" is causing confusion. From your questions I think you are understanding ring in the British usage; not American. As in "I'll give you a ring shall I?" meaning "call." When I say my phone doesn't ring, I mean the sound. I only get a visual pop up that someone is calling me; not a ring tone. Am I understanding correctly? 2351a5e196
