Our lab's interests are centered on how the human brain develops social and emotional abilities at the cellular level. We have several projects that are investigating how neurons and other cells develop in brain regions that are important for social and emotional learning. Ultimately we are interested in identifying ways that these developmental processes may be disrupted in neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Ongoing projects fall into 4 broad domains:
1) Childhood and adolescent development of the human amygdala at the cellular level in neuropsychiatric disorders
2) Diversity of neuron and glial cell types in the human amygdala, entorhinal cortex, and hippocampus
3) Persistent and protracted neuron migration and maturation in the adolescent brain
4) Cross-species comparisons of neural development
