I grew up in River Grove, Illinois (a town right outside of Chicago). My mother was my first teacher and a big reason why I pursued being an educator. Growing up, I played many sports and was very involved in music-- I play oboe and alto saxophone as well as sing-- and theatre.Â
After attending East Leyden High School, I made the move down to Peoria, Illinois to Bradley University where I received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and Management & Leadership. During my time at Bradley University I was a residential advisor for seven out of the eight semesters I attended. I discovered my love for mixed martial arts (MMA) and through that love I discovered that I really did want to become a teacher. While I taught university students as the MMA Club President and Coach the foundations of MMA, I felt pride and joy to see their "eureka moment"! That was when I knew that I wanted to be a teacher- to celebrate student successes and failures in the pursuit of learning and growing.
