MEDIUM: INK ON PAPER, 10" x 9"
‘This piece depicts the burial of a lamb. An act meant to symbolize the death of innocence and purity which one may experience during their transition from girlhood to womanhood.’
“Julieann Sierra is an artist who spends a majority of her waking hours ruminating on her personal connection to and experiences with death, girlhood, and religion. Consequently, most of her work aims to visually depict her internal explorations of these concepts.”

"Rat of Dissent, in the Crucified Flower..."
A great mother, loved by few, In the bitter suburbia, misunderstood by most, Yet, in the shadow of danger, she sang for the blessed chain,
Her story will always be remembered as flower's misery.
I have embraced thy prayers, my dear mother, Within the freedom of intelligent expression, In the midst of a valley, I visited thy Church, and thou whispereth the beauty of life to me,
With thy divine name, I have supplicated for ethereal peace.
Like a merciful rat, shielded in the Bible,
Valuing our melancholic moments, at an altar, I pray for thy heart,
In the name of the Lord, I pray for eternal death and crucifixion,
Though in this world, everything may cost, our ashes shall be planted in a flower for saints.
Innocence dies, but from the depths of our hearts, a mystical fawn is reborn,
Build your own abode for tears, where you and I shall comprehend pain,
We yearn to inscribe our sins in the garden, and statues shall rise again this blessed night,
I am not afraid to die, for your holy death summoned me in that house of God.
♡ ANALYSIS ♡
"Every art in Julieann's heavenly doll & religion style resonated with emotional depth, as she articulated the whispers of her own sinister era. The juxtaposition of beauty within the nightmare of tranquility spoke volumes about the human experience, mirroring the inherent duality of light and darkness within our souls. The deliberate choice to depict two rats served as a symbolic challenge to societal perceptions. In a world where these creatures are often marginalized as symbols of unholiness and disease, Julieann sought to elevate them as embodiments of survival and resilience. Through her art, she encouraged viewers to recognize and honor the inherent dignity of all beings, inspiring them to explore their own purity through dialogue and artistic expression."
