Sophie Séjourné, a French-American artist, began her career in La Rochelle, France. She then went to Paris, where she exhibited in Galerie Ariane over a ten year period.
She now works from her studio in Hampton Bays, New York. Séjourné spent her childhood on the island of Ile de Ré surrounded by the sea, which continues to give her inspiration.
She has studied at l’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Poitiers, and she is a graduate of The Art Students League, in New York City, which has her work in its private collection.
In 1992, Séjourné represented the artists of France at an international symposium in Germany. She has prepared several media projects for public spaces in La Rochelle and has appeared on radio and TV in her country.
In addition to exhibiting widely throughout France and Europe, Mexico, Asia and the United States, Séjourné has taught art and art history in France and New York City.
In her work she has developed a lyric geometric vocabulary in which the elements of color and light organize the canvas.
