Volunteer Hours is provided by Zhiyi Liu, based in the United States (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Volunteer Hours mobile app.

Volunteer Hours does not require an account. The app stores the information you enter on your device, including:
Organization names, volunteer roles, optional addresses, and participation dates.
Volunteer-shift dates, start and end times, breaks, notes, and recorded hours.
Your optional report name, hour goal, and app preferences.
Checklists, planned shifts, and reminder settings.
Active timer information.
If you enable automatic logging, saved organization coordinates, approximate arrival and departure times, and pending shift suggestions.
We do not receive or maintain a copy of these records on a Volunteer Hours server. Information you choose to share or send to support is handled as described below.
The app uses this information to:
Record, calculate, and display your volunteer hours.
Organize your volunteering activities.
Recover an active timer when you reopen the app.
Schedule reminders and display notifications.
Generate reports and backups.
Provide optional location-based automatic hour logging.
The app does not use advertising or third-party analytics tracking. We do not sell or rent your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Location-based automatic logging is optional and is off by default.
When you enable automatic logging for an organization and grant the necessary permissions, your device’s operating system monitors arrival at and departure from that organization’s saved location. This may operate while the app is in the background.
The app records approximate arrival and departure times for enabled volunteer locations. It does not maintain an unrelated travel-route history or continuously record everywhere you go.
You can choose between:
Review before saving: qualifying estimated shifts remain pending until you approve them.
Automatic saving: qualifying estimated shifts are saved automatically, subject to the app’s date-range and conflict checks.
Location-based times are estimates, not proof of volunteering. Device settings and operating-system restrictions may delay or prevent detection.
You can disable automatic logging for an organization in the app or revoke location permission in your device settings. Manual hour logging does not require background location access.
When you select Find address, the app sends the entered address to your device’s address-lookup service. This service may process the address, coordinates, and related technical information over a network.
These services are provided by your device platform or its service providers and are subject to their privacy policies, including, where applicable:
A confirmed address and its coordinates are saved locally for the organization. Address searches are not performed continuously or in the background.
With your permission, the app uses local notifications for reminders and automatic-logging updates.
Notifications may display organization names or shift information on your lock screen, depending on your device settings. You can change notification permissions and lock-screen visibility in your device settings.
Disabling notifications does not prevent manual logging. Notification permission is separate from location permission.
PDF reports are generated on your device. When you choose to share a report or backup, your operating system opens its sharing options, and you choose the recipient or destination.
The receiving app, email provider, messaging service, or storage provider handles the shared information under its own privacy practices.
Exported JSON backups are not encrypted by Volunteer Hours. They may contain names, organization addresses, volunteer records, and other information. Store and share them carefully.
PDF reports are not restorable backups. Copies you export or share are not automatically deleted when you delete records inside the app.
Device or cloud backups may also retain app information, depending on your operating system and backup settings.
Your app records remain on your device until you edit or delete them, restore a replacement backup, or remove the app’s stored data.
You can:
Review and edit your records within the app.
Delete individual records.
Delete all app records through Settings.
Export reports or create a backup.
Disable optional location logging and notifications.
Deleting local records does not delete previously exported files, copies held by recipients, or copies in device backups.
Because we do not hold your local volunteer records on a server, we cannot remotely retrieve, restore, or delete those records for you.
If you contact us, we receive your email address and any information or attachments you choose to provide. We use that information to respond to your request and address support or privacy concerns.
Please avoid sending sensitive information that is not necessary for your request.
We retain support communications only as long as reasonably necessary to handle the request and meet applicable legal obligations.
The app stores records in its private device storage and relies on operating-system security protections.
No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Protect your device with a passcode, keep its software updated, and safeguard exported reports and backups.
Volunteer Hours is intended for students in the United States aged 4 and older.
Parents and guardians should review location permissions, notification settings, and any information a student chooses to export or share.
If you have concerns about a child’s information, contact us at vha.support@gmail.com. Information stored only on the device must be managed through the app or device settings.
Operating-system services, address-lookup providers, sharing destinations, backup providers, and app stores may process information under their own privacy policies.
The website hosting this Privacy Policy may also process website-visit information under its hosting provider’s privacy practices. Those website practices are separate from the app’s local storage of volunteer records.
We may update this Privacy Policy when the app’s features or privacy practices change. We will publish the updated policy on this page and revise the effective date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent.
