Sophie Leiter, Ph.D (she/her/elle)

I am a physical volcanologist and geoscience educator with a passion for experiential learning and progressive pedagogy. My teaching philosophy focuses on teaching creating welcoming and inclusive spaces where students feel empowered to create their own knowledge. I am particularly enthusiastic about introductory courses and welcoming a more diverse range of students into the field.

My research interests centre on the explosive products of interactions between magma and water; what they can tell us about the dynamics of those eruptions and what they can tell us about paleo-environmental conditions. My work spans phreatomagmatic maars to subglacial eruptions, but largely focuses on monogenetic basaltic volcanism.
