Conversations

My primary interest as an artist is people. My ongoing Conversation Series focuses on how the people I learn from live, work, find joy, rest and organize for the world they want to live in. 

I begin each work with a conversation or series of conversations. During or after the conversation, I take and collect photos of the person. Before painting, I assemble the photos to reflect the themes of our discussion, digitally collaging several together to create a new image, which becomes the reference for my painting. This process creates a new perspective that’s both grounded in reality and disorienting. This alerts the viewer that they are witnessing both specific snapshots, and a broader view of the subject.

My hope is that these portraits remind their subjects of the difference they make, and remind us all to learn from each other.
