Sophie Baxter is a Scottish actor who is currently studying BA Hons Performance at the University of the West of Scotland. Since performing from a young age, Sophie has always had a passion for the performance industry and dreamed to call it her career.
Sophie’s love for the theatre was first sparked at 6 years old after she saw a glimpse of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Phantom of the Opera on television. She was immediately intrigued by the music and the aspect of singing within a movie. She quickly developed a love for the craft and set about developing her skills. She was even lucky enough to see the production in London on the West End aged just 7 years old.
On her journey she joined dance classes that she still continues. Developing her skills in Tap, Modern and Contemporary dance. Through this she had the opportunity to perform in dance shows within Aberdeen, allowing her to grow in confidence when performing infront of a large audience.
Through her dance classes a Musical Theatre drama group was created where Sophie was able to work on her theatre craft. Receiving singing and acting lessons which allowed her to work on becoming a triple threat within the industry. At aged 6 the company performed the show Oliver with a full female cast in which Sophie was cast as Oliver. This was her first on stage acting role.
Sophie has continued to work on her craft out with education continuing to take singing, dance and acting lessons with professionals within the industry. She receives weekly lessons from West End actor Kelly Mathieson to continue to work on her voice whilst training with a group called Acting Upstaged, working on her craft whilst promoting herself as an actor.
Sophie’s hard work and commitment to her craft has landed her some opportunities within the industry. Within college she played the role of Belle from Beauty and the Beast in their Christmas Panto. She also had the opportunity of sharing the stage with comedian Jack Whitehall, performing in the closing segment of his show in Aberdeen alongside her class mates to an arena of over 10,000 people.
