MISSION STATEMENT

Sports Oriented Nurturing (S.O.N.) Youth Partnership Inc. is a non-profit, community-based mentoring program; teaching youth life skills through sports.

MISSION

The mission of Sports Oriented Nurturing (S.O.N.) Youth Partnership Inc. is to alleviate poverty by assisting low-income youth, families, and immigrants to become decision makers, who engage in positive community building activities, and take responsibility for the improvement of their lives and surroundings. It is also S.O.N’s mission to increase the social mobility of teens through mentoring, sports and character building. The alleviation of poverty as well as the stimulation of youth through athletic, academic and social mentoring requires a holistic approach. S.O.N, in its formative years, realized that in order to help those in need, the organization had to offer a wide variety of services; and also collaborate with other non-profits, social service agencies and educational institutions.

HISTORY

Sports Oriented Nurturing (S.O.N.) Youth Partnership Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization founded in 1998 to address the educational, social, economic, health, and athletic needs of youth at risk of not completing standard high school graduation requirements & engaging in negative, self-destructive behaviors in the New York City area, especially among the Black and Latino communities. S.O.N believes that many of the symptoms listed above are interconnected and require a variety of community responses that will prevent school failure, and promote family strengthening, healthy eating, college awareness, employment training and placement in sustainable jobs. We operate on the premise that any individual can succeed if s/he is motivated and has access to appropriate skills, information and opportunities.

Kids don’t care what you know, until they know that you care. S.O.N. Youth Partnership has been running successful programs in schools and community centers for the past 23 years. S.O.N. Youth Partnership has a proven track record in youth programming. Kids know that we care.
