The cover for Rage Against The Machines "Killing In The Name"
My groups project is based around the genre "Punk Rap/Heavy Rock". A few examples of artists from this movement include, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters, Janes Addicton, and System Of A Down. This style of music originated in the 1990s, influenced by the heavy metal tones popularised by bands such as Metallica, as well as the politcal rap flow of early Hip-Hop artists. The song from this genre and movement my group has chosen is Rage Against The Machines "Killing In The Name".
The C-800G was used prolifically in the early 90s by famous rap artists such as Dr Dre and Eminem. In this early era of Hip-Hop, it heavily influenced many different genres, one of those being Punk Rap. Artists like The Beastie Boys transitioned from Hard Punk to Hip-Hop, then figuring out how to blend the genres together, therefore creating "Punk Rap". The C-800G is commonly used in vocal recordings for aggressive rap styles. These "aggressive" styles of rap are very prevalent in Punk Rap, as shown in songs such as "Killing In The Name". The C-800G also has a great range for recording, which helps artists who use their voices in many different ways, as Punk Rap artists do. The C-800G is a relatively flat microphone that has a slight boost at around 10kHz, which provides a bright recording with a punch that suits the performance style of Punk Rap.
The Beastie Boys, originally a hard punk band, transitioned to rap and found ways to blend the two genres together.
