If you want premium active noise cancellation, seamless multi-device switching, and a compact in-ear design for immersive listening, choose Sony WF-C710N; if you need open-ear safety, full submersion waterproofing for swimming, and built-in music storage without a phone, choose aigo Bone Conduction Headphones.
• Sony WF-C710N: Offers advanced Active Noise Cancellation and 30 hours of total battery life with a secure in-ear fit, but it cannot be used underwater and blocks some ambient sound. Best for commuters and office workers who want to block out the world.
• aigo Bone Conduction Headphones: Delivers IP68 waterproofing for swimming, Bluetooth 6.0 stability, and 32GB onboard storage for phone-free workouts, but lacks true isolation from external noise due to its open-ear design. Best for athletes, swimmers, and anyone needing situational awareness.
The Sony WF-C710N is engineered for people who prioritize audio immersion and the ability to tune out their environment completely. The defining feature here is the dual-microphone system designed specifically for Advanced Noise Canceling. Unlike standard earbuds that might struggle with fit variations, these use two microphones to detect surrounding noise and actively filter it out, creating a quiet bubble regardless of how well the ear tips seal your ear canal. This makes them an ideal choice for "best anc open ear earbuds for flights" or busy city streets where traffic and chatter are constant distractions.
For those with larger ears or those who simply prefer a snug, traditional fit, the ergonomic surface is a major plus. The design focuses on all-day comfort while maintaining a lightweight profile at just 5.2 grams per bud. You get up to 8.5 hours of continuous playback on the buds themselves, plus an additional 21.5 hours in the charging case, totaling 30 hours of listening time. If you find yourself constantly reaching for a charger, this extended battery life is a game-changer. A quick five-minute charge even provides an hour of playback, which is perfect for those mornings when you rush out the door.
The call quality is another area where this model shines, utilizing Precise Voice Pickup Technology powered by AI machine learning. This algorithm suppresses ambient noise to extract your voice clearly, meaning your conversations remain crisp even in windy or noisy environments. However, this strength comes with a trade-off: because they are in-ear devices with active noise cancellation, you lose a degree of environmental awareness. While there is an Ambient Sound Mode to let some noise back in, it is not the same as the completely open feel of bone conduction. If you need to hear every siren, car horn, or conversation around you, this design might feel isolating.

Furthermore, the Sony WF-C710N supports Multipoint Connection, allowing you to pair with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. This is essential for professionals who switch between a laptop and a smartphone frequently. When a call comes in on one device, the other automatically pauses, ensuring you never miss a ring. The digital sound enhancement engine also processes audio to deliver powerful bass and clear vocals through a 5mm driver, making them excellent for music lovers who want rich detail. However, they are only rated IPX4, meaning they can handle sweat and splashes but should never be submerged.
The aigo Bone Conduction Headphones (GS08MAX) serve a completely different demographic: those who refuse to sacrifice safety or mobility for music. These headphones utilize a hybrid bone and air conduction system, combining an 18mm bone conduction vibrator with traditional drivers to create a layered soundstage. The result is deep, resonant bass and clear mids without blocking your ear canal. This open-ear design is critical for outdoor activities like running, cycling, or working near machinery where hearing your surroundings is a matter of personal safety. They are arguably the best option for "anc open ear earbuds for motorcycle" riders who need to hear traffic while enjoying their playlist.
What sets this model apart from almost any other wireless headphone is its IP68 waterproof rating. This means they are fully submersible and dustproof, making them the only realistic choice for serious swimmers. You can take them into the pool, surf in the ocean, or run through heavy rain without worrying about water damage. Once you finish, you simply shake off the moisture and wipe the mesh dry. This level of durability is unmatched by standard earbuds, which often fail after a single swim session.
Another standout feature is the 32GB of built-in MP3 storage. Most wireless headphones require a phone to play music, but these allow you to store thousands of songs directly on the device. This is a massive advantage for underwater use, where Bluetooth signals do not penetrate water effectively. You can leave your phone at home or in a locker and still enjoy high-quality audio during your workout. The inclusion of Bluetooth 6.0 ensures that when you are on land, you get stable, low-latency streaming with multipoint connection capabilities similar to the Sony.
The physical build is equally impressive for long-term wear. Weighing only 25 grams, they are incredibly light, featuring a titanium alloy frame with soft silicone padding. This construction minimizes clamping force, reducing fatigue during long sessions. They work seamlessly with glasses and hats, fitting securely over various head shapes. With an 8-hour battery life on a single charge, they keep pace with even the most grueling training days. However, users must accept that the open-ear design inherently allows external noise to enter. While they have ENC dual-mic noise cancellation for calls, filtering out 96.5% of background noise, the music itself will always compete with the sounds of your environment.

• Best for multi-device productivity → Both support Multipoint Connection, but Sony offers more granular app control via Sound Connect.
• Best for call clarity in wind → aigo Bone Conduction Headphones (ENC filters wind up to 15 mph effectively).
• Best for detailed, isolated audio → Sony WF-C710N (In-ear seal prevents sound leakage and maximizes bass response).
I would personally buy the Sony WF-C710N if my primary goal was daily commuting, office work, or travel, as the active noise cancellation provides a sanctuary from chaos that bone conduction simply cannot match. However, if I were looking for the ultimate fitness companion, especially one that could handle laps in a pool or runs in heavy rain without risking water damage, the aigo Bone Conduction Headphones are the superior choice. For kids wireless usage, where safety and durability are paramount, the aigo model stands out as the safer, more robust option for active children who need to stay aware of their surroundings while listening to audiobooks or music. In my opinion, the aigo wins on versatility for physical activity, while the Sony wins on pure audio immersion for stationary listening.
The Sony WF-C710N features an ergonomic design specifically tested for a variety of ear shapes, including larger ones, to ensure a stable and comfortable in-ear fit. The aigo model uses a titanium frame with adjustable soft silicone padding that works well with glasses and various head sizes, though the open-ear style may feel less secure for some than a tight in-ear seal.
Only the aigo Bone Conduction Headphones are suitable for swimming, as they carry an IP68 rating that allows for full submersion. The Sony WF-C710N is only IPX4 rated, meaning it can handle sweat and splashes but will be damaged if submerged in water.
No, the aigo headphones include 32GB of built-in storage, allowing you to download and play thousands of songs directly from the device without needing a phone connected via Bluetooth.
