If you want immersive, closed-back audio with extended battery life for home theater or critical listening sessions, choose Sony RF400; if you need open-ear safety and bone conduction technology for active outdoor use, choose WALLA SOUND Beat Bone Conduction.
• Sony RF400: Delivers a wide frequency range with 150-foot wireless freedom and up to 20 hours of battery life, but requires a direct TV connection via RCA or headphone jack and lacks Bluetooth.
• WALLA SOUND Beat Bone Conduction: Offers an ultra-lightweight, waterproof design for swimming and running with built-in storage, but provides only 5 hours of playtime and a shorter 10-meter wireless range.
• Best for: The Sony RF400 is ideal for stationary home entertainment or music production monitoring where isolation matters, while the WALLA SOUND Beat suits athletes who need ambient awareness during movement.
The Sony RF400 is engineered for the listener who prioritizes immersion and convenience within a fixed location. Its 1.57-inch dynamic driver unit pushes out a frequency range spanning from 10 Hz to 22,000 Hz, ensuring that deep lows and crisp highs are reproduced with clarity. This makes it a compelling option for those seeking extra bass in ear earbuds for music production contexts where low-end fidelity is non-negotiable, provided the environment allows for the necessary setup. The closed-type design effectively blocks external noise, creating a private sonic space that is essential when mixing tracks or watching a movie without disturbing others.
Battery life is a standout feature here. With an average life of up to 20 hours on a single charge, these headphones eliminate the anxiety of power depletion during long editing sessions or marathon viewing parties. While the charge time is listed at 7 hours, the payoff is substantial endurance. The wireless capability operates over a massive 150-foot range using RF technology, allowing you to move freely around your living room or even step into the kitchen without losing signal integrity. This range far exceeds typical Bluetooth limitations found in many consumer devices.

However, this product is strictly tethered to its ecosystem. It does not support Bluetooth connectivity, meaning you cannot pair it directly with a smartphone or tablet without additional hardware. You must connect the transmitter dock to your television using either an RCA Audio Out port or a standard Headphone Jack. This requirement defines its user base: it is perfect for the home theater enthusiast or the producer working in a studio with dedicated analog outputs. If you need a fast charging headset for music production that relies on digital streaming or mobile apps, this device will not fit that workflow. It is also heavier at 2.9 pounds compared to portable alternatives, making it less suitable for travel but excellent for stationary comfort thanks to its plush ear pads.
The WALLA SOUND Beat Bone Conduction headphones are built for the active individual who refuses to compromise on safety or hydration. The core innovation lies in its open-ear design, which transmits sound through the cheekbones rather than blocking the ear canal. This leaves your ears completely open to ambient sounds, a critical feature for runners, cyclists, or commuters navigating busy streets. There is no risk of ear fatigue or pressure buildup, even after hours of wear, because the silicone neckband rests lightly against the skin without sealing off the ear. Weighing just 30 grams, the flexibility of the liquid-silicone material ensures a secure fit that stays put during intense movement, whether you are sprinting or cycling.
For those who value independence from their phones, the 32GB of built-in MP3 storage is a game-changer. You can load your favorite playlists directly onto the device and leave your smartphone at home. This is particularly useful for workouts where carrying a phone feels cumbersome or unsafe. The IPX8 waterproof rating further cements its status as a serious sports companion; it can withstand heavy sweat, rain, and even full submersion for swimming laps. No other headphone in this comparison offers such durability against water, making it the superior choice for aquatic training or harsh weather conditions.
Despite these strengths, there are clear trade-offs for the stationary listener. The battery life tops out at 5 hours, which is sufficient for a daily commute or a standard gym session but falls short for all-day production work or long-haul travel. Furthermore, the Bluetooth range is limited to 10 meters, restricting your mobility compared to the expansive range of the Sony model. The audio quality, while clear for bone conduction standards, naturally lacks the physical isolation and deep bass response of a closed-back dynamic driver system. If you are looking for wireless earbuds for music production where absolute sonic accuracy and isolation are paramount, the open design of the WALLA SOUND Beat may let too much outside noise in to be effective for critical listening.
• Best for Battery Life: Sony RF400 wins hands down with 20 hours of continuous playback versus 5 hours on the WALLA SOUND Beat.
• Best for Water Resistance: WALLA SOUND Beat dominates with an IPX8 rating suitable for swimming, whereas the Sony RF400 has no waterproof claims.
• Best for Wireless Range: Sony RF400 offers a 150-foot RF range, providing total room freedom, while the WALLA SOUND Beat is limited to a 10-meter Bluetooth radius.
• Best for Ambient Awareness: WALLA SOUND Beat is the clear winner with its open-ear design that keeps you connected to your surroundings.
• Best for Bass and Isolation: Sony RF400 provides superior low-frequency response and noise isolation due to its closed-over-ear cup enclosure.
• Best for Phone-Free Workouts: WALLA SOUND Beat includes 32GB internal storage, allowing you to leave your phone behind entirely.
• Best for Home Theater/Monitoring: Sony RF400 is designed specifically for TV connections and stationary listening environments.
• Best for Weight and Comfort: WALLA SOUND Beat is significantly lighter at 30g, making it virtually unnoticeable during high-intensity activity.
In my opinion, the choice between these two devices comes down to where you intend to listen and what you are listening to. If you are building a dedicated station for music production or simply want to enjoy movies and TV shows without interruption, I would buy the Sony RF400. Its ability to deliver a wide frequency range with deep bass and a massive wireless range makes it a powerhouse for stationary content consumption. However, if your primary goal is staying safe while running, swimming, or commuting, the WALLA SOUND Beat is the only logical choice due to its open-ear safety and waterproof durability. For professional music production work specifically, the Sony RF400 remains the stronger candidate because the isolation and driver size provide the fidelity needed to hear every detail of a mix without external interference.
No, the Sony RF400 uses RF wireless technology and does not have Bluetooth capabilities. It requires a physical connection via RCA or a headphone jack to a TV or compatible transmitter dock.
Yes, they feature an IPX8 waterproof rating, which means they are fully submersible and designed to withstand swimming laps and heavy rain without damage.
The Sony RF400 offers up to 20 hours of battery life, which is four times longer than the 5-hour capacity of the WALLA SOUND Beat.
Not necessarily. They come with 32GB of built-in MP3 storage, allowing you to transfer music files directly to the headphones and listen without a paired device.
