If you want powerful active noise cancellation and wired audio fidelity for focused study sessions, choose Sony MDR-NC60; if you need a soft, wireless headband that stays comfortable while you lie on your side to listen or sleep, choose Perytong Sleep Headband Headphones. These two devices occupy completely different corners of the audio market, solving distinct problems with radically different approaches. One is a classic, over-the-ear noise-canceling solution designed to shut out the world entirely, while the other is a flexible fabric accessory engineered to disappear under a pillow or during a run without causing pressure points.
• Sony MDR-NC60: Delivers up to 85% ambient noise reduction with premium sound drivers but requires batteries and a wired connection. Best for travelers and students needing total isolation in stationary environments.
• Perytong Sleep Headband Headphones: Offers Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity and a washable, sweat-proof design that works for side sleepers, though it lacks active noise cancellation. Best for insomniacs, runners, and anyone who needs comfort while lying down.
The Sony MDR-NC60 is built for people who prioritize sound isolation above all else. Its core strength lies in its ability to actively cancel up to 85% of ambient noise, specifically targeting low-frequency droning sounds like airplane engines or office hums. This isn't just passive blocking; the device uses electronic circuitry to generate inverse sound waves that neutralize background chatter. For someone trying to study in a noisy coffee shop or on a long flight, this feature transforms a chaotic environment into a quiet bubble. The inclusion of a built-in monitor switch allows you to instantly mute the music and hear what is happening around you without removing the headphones, which is a critical safety and convenience feature for travel.
The physical construction supports this focus on isolation. Weighing only 230 grams, the unit remains lightweight despite the complex electronics inside. The over-ear design utilizes aluminum and leather materials that create a sealed acoustic environment around your ears. While this seal is excellent for sound quality and noise cancellation, it also means these headphones are not designed for sleeping. They sit firmly on top of your head and enclose your ears, making them unsuitable for side sleepers who would find the hard cups painful against a pillow. However, for a seated student using open ear earbuds for study as a baseline, these over-ear units provide a much more immersive experience by physically blocking distractions rather than just playing louder.

You should buy the Sony MDR-NC60 if you value crystal clear calls in ear earbuds for study where voice clarity matters alongside music. The 40mm driver units paired with neodymium magnets ensure high-fidelity audio reproduction across a wide frequency range from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. The package includes a premium hard carrying case made of leather or aluminum, an in-flight adapter, and a AAA battery pack, signaling that this is a travel-ready device meant for serious listening. You should skip this product if you plan to wear it while lying down, running in the rain, or engaging in high-sweat workouts, as the materials and form factor are not designed for such activities.
The Perytong Sleep Headband Headphones is a versatile tool designed for mobility and extreme comfort. Unlike traditional headphones that press against the skull, this device integrates ultra-thin HD stereo speakers into a soft fabric headband made of spandex and breathable material. The design philosophy here is "wearability first." It allows you to listen to audiobooks, white noise, or music while lying on your side without feeling the pressure of hard plastic cups digging into your temples or ears. This makes it an ideal companion for insomniacs who struggle to fall asleep due to external noise, or for travelers who want to watch movies in bed without bulky gear.
Connectivity is handled through Bluetooth 5.4, providing a fast and stable link with a range of up to 43 feet. This modern standard ensures minimal latency and reliable performance compared to older wireless protocols. The headband features a built-in 200mAh battery that delivers up to 14 hours of continuous playback after a quick 1-to-2-hour charge via a Type-C port. This longevity is crucial for overnight use or long-haul flights. Furthermore, the entire unit is machine-washable, provided you remove the speaker modules, addressing the hygiene concerns common with sweat-prone workouts. It functions equally well as a sports headband for running or yoga, protecting your hair and managing sweat without compromising audio.
Buy the Perytong Sleep Headband Headphones if you need a device that adapts to your lifestyle rather than forcing you to adapt to it. It is perfect for meditation practitioners seeking peaceful immersion or office workers needing discreet relaxation without looking like they are wearing large headphones. You must skip this option if you require active noise cancellation to block out loud construction work or jet engine noise, as this device relies solely on the fit of the fabric to dampen sound slightly, rather than electronic cancellation. It is also not suitable for those who prefer the deep, bass-heavy immersion of over-ear cups, as the thin speakers offer a more direct, surface-level audio experience.

In my opinion, I would choose the Perytong Sleep Headband Headphones for my personal setup because its versatility solves problems the Sony cannot touch. While the Sony MDR-NC60 is undeniably superior for shutting out the world during a dedicated study session, the Perytong offers a level of comfort that allows me to listen while lying down, working out, or traveling in a cramped seat. For a student looking for open ear earbuds for study who also wants to unwind before bed, the Perytong covers both bases seamlessly. If you need to focus intensely in a loud environment, the Sony wins, but for the average person juggling sleep, travel, and exercise, the Perytong is the smarter, more adaptable choice.
