If you want deep noise isolation with a premium build and a dedicated transparency switch for glasses wearers, choose Sony MDR-NC60; if you need versatile media controls and a lightweight, fashion-forward design that stays comfortable during long gaming or music sessions, choose SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS.
• Sony MDR-NC60: Offers superior active noise cancellation (up to 85% reduction) and a durable aluminum-and-leather construction, but lacks modern media buttons and relies on AAA batteries for power. Best for the traveler who prioritizes silence and audio fidelity over smart features.
• SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS: Features full ear cup articulation for a custom fit and integrated media controls, though it uses plastic materials and standard memory foam padding. Best for the style-conscious user who wants easy track control and a lighter feel for daily wear.
The Sony MDR-NC60 is engineered for those who view headphones as a serious tool for blocking out the world. The standout feature here is the aggressive noise-canceling capability, which delivers up to 85% ambient noise reduction at 200 Hz. That is a massive amount of silence, making this pair ideal for anyone who commutes on noisy trains, flies frequently, or works in an open office where focus is paramount. The inclusion of a built-in monitor switch is a critical detail for practical use; it allows you to instantly mute your music to hear announcements or conversation without removing the headphones. This is a specific, thoughtful design choice that benefits users who need situational awareness while wearing over-the-ear gear.
For glasses wearers, the physical build quality offers significant peace of mind. The earpieces are constructed from aluminum and leather, materials that generally provide a more rigid and stable frame than softer plastics. When combined with the adjustable, foldable headband, the fit feels secure without needing excessive clamping force that could dig into temple tips. The 40mm dynamic driver units with neodymium magnets promise superior sound quality, ensuring that when you do lower the noise cancellation, the audio remains crisp and balanced across the frequency range. It is a no-nonsense device designed for longevity and performance rather than flashy aesthetics.

However, this model is not for everyone. It requires two AAA batteries to operate its active noise cancellation system, adding a small maintenance step compared to rechargeable options. Furthermore, it lacks any onboard media controls like play, pause, or volume adjustment directly on the ear cup; you must rely on the connected device. If you are looking for a headset that integrates deeply with voice assistants or offers wireless connectivity, this wired-only unit will feel dated. It is strictly for the listener who values raw audio performance and maximum noise blocking above all else.
The SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS positions itself as a stylish companion for the modern listener who refuses to compromise on convenience. Its defining characteristic is the full ear cup articulation, a mechanical feature that allows the cups to rotate and tilt significantly. This engineering ensures a customized seal around the ears regardless of head shape, which is a game-changer for comfort during extended periods. Whether you are gaming for hours or listening to high-definition tracks, the ability to adjust the angle means the headphones adapt to you rather than forcing you to adapt to them. This flexibility makes it a strong contender for those seeking the best ear clip headphones experience for glasses wearers, as the memory foam and silicone combination can be molded to accommodate frames without creating painful pressure points.
Functionality is another area where this model shines. It includes built-in media controls, allowing you to manage calls and music playback directly from the ear cup. This integration is essential for users who want a seamless experience without reaching for their phone or computer every time they need to skip a track or answer a call. The design also embraces a fashion-forward aesthetic, available in multiple colorways like Gold/Gold and Silver/Grey, catering to those who see their audio gear as part of their personal style. The frequency response covers the standard 20Hz to 20,000Hz range, delivering a balanced sound profile suitable for everything from bass-heavy beats to detailed classical pieces.
Despite these strengths, there are trade-offs to consider. The enclosure materials are primarily plastic and silicone, which may not feel as robust or "premium" as the aluminum found in the Sony alternative. While the memory foam is soft, the overall construction might feel less substantial for heavy-duty travel. Additionally, like the Sony, this is a wired solution using a 3.5mm jack, so it does not offer the freedom of Bluetooth connectivity. It is a fantastic choice for a desktop setup, a commute where you want to look good, or a casual gaming session, but it might lack the rugged, industrial durability some travelers prefer.
• Best for noise isolation → Sony MDR-NC60, thanks to its 16.5dB reduction at 200 Hz and dedicated monitor switch.
• Best for comfort with glasses → SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS, due to its fully articulating ear cups and memory foam fit.
• Best for material durability → Sony MDR-NC60, utilizing aluminum and leather components for a heavier, sturdier build.
• Best for media convenience → SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS, featuring direct media controls on the ear cup.
• Best for battery independence → Neither, as both require wired connection, but Sony needs AAA batteries for ANC while SOUL draws power differently via the cable or internal circuitry depending on the specific mode.
• Best for sound fidelity → Sony MDR-NC60, leveraging neodymium magnets and 40mm drivers for high-quality output.
• Best for style variety → SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS, offering multiple color options to match personal tastes.
• Best for travel portability → Sony MDR-NC60, which comes with a premium hard carrying case included in the package.
After weighing the specs and design philosophies of both units, I would personally buy the Sony MDR-NC60 for my daily commute and work-from-home setup. The combination of the aluminum build, the specific 85% noise reduction rating, and the dedicated monitor switch creates a product that feels like a serious piece of audio equipment rather than just a fashion accessory. For glasses wearers specifically, the rigid structure and premium leather padding offer a stability that prevents the common issue of frames slipping or causing pain during long listening sessions. While the SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS is a capable and stylish alternative with great articulation, the Sony's commitment to pure noise cancellation and robust construction makes it the more reliable tool for serious listening.
Both models feature wired connectivity with a 3.5mm jack, which allows them to work with most smartphones and computers that support voice assistant integration, provided the device handles the input.
No, the data indicates the Sony MDR-NC60 provides up to 85% (16.5dB at 200 Hz) ambient noise reduction, which is a quantifiable metric suggesting strong isolation capabilities. The SOUL model is described as having powered noise canceling but does not list a specific decibel reduction figure in the provided specifications.
The SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS appears better suited for extended gaming due to its full ear cup articulation and memory foam padding, which allow for a highly customizable fit that accommodates different head shapes and glasses frames. The Sony is also lightweight at 230g, but the Sony's rigid aluminum structure might feel less adaptable over many hours compared to the flexible SOUL design.
The Sony MDR-NC60 comes with a premium hard carrying case, AAA batteries, an in-flight adapter, and a plug adapter, meaning you likely won't need to purchase anything immediately. The SOUL by Ludacris SL300MS includes the ear cups and cable but does not mention a hard case in the standard packaging details, so you might need to source a protective bag separately.
