Currently i could buy the forest but for sons of the forest i might need to wait a month. I know overall sons is much better in gameplay and i know the story of the first game since i've watched a playthrough. Im thinking of buying the first one instead of waiting for the sequel, Would it be worth it to wait for sons?

So, first of all, the game looks beautiful. graphically it's definitely up there, especially for a small studio, and the features of Kevin (he's Kevin in my mind) is actually one of the best features I've ever seen. However sons of the forest is also not exactly great.

And the last part, the lack of roadmap. Now I understand that this is not long after release, but ffs this was supposed to come out last year, so really they have no excuse for not having one. And I personally believe that if they do not allow steam workshop support for this game, it can and will die. The game lacks far too much content, and unless endnight decided to port all of it over from the forest, it just won't be worth it.Games such as farming simulator, ETS2, and other are still alive due to modding, and I feel that if the devs gave us the ability to easily mod the game, it will easily become the best survival on steam.

I really enjoy the crafting system and how the inventory is organized. It's great that I can store items if I have too many of them. The sleep, hunger, thirst, and fatigue systems are essential to a survival game, but have their flaws. I also appreciate the inclusion of seasons, particularly the snowy winter season which I found to be really immersive. The wetness and coldness are interesting features, but I do think they could be improved.

I also found that the fatigue, hunger, and thirst systems don't have any real consequences. I can go through a night without eating or drinking anything and not feel any negative effects. The same goes for stamina, which can be ignored when building a base if you have enough resources. The seasons don't feel fully realized either. They just switch over night and there's no noticeable spring or fall. Winter doesn't make anything more difficult either, it just makes some gameplay aspects weird. For example, I can't make a hole in the ice for water and the snow makes it hard to see where I'm digging. The coldness and wetness also don't make me sick, and there's no real interaction with the winter environment beyond it being a nice visual feature.

I see some of the most insightful critic and awesome ideas being suggested in this subreddit but more often than not on these threads someone will comment (if not its own OP) that it would be "just like in Green Hell". The Forest (2014) came way before Green Hell (2018) and I imagine that comparing its sequel with another game is not only downright insulting but shows them what direction to NOT go in order for it to stand out.

Just a little rant because I'm sure those comparisons are doing more harm than good and makes many ideas get shutdown even before they are even considered just so one game don't end up ressembling the other.

Sons of the forest looks blurry af, if anyone has a workaround please share I will be greatful. I know there is an option to disable AA but it doesn't feel like it's disabled, I don't have a picture to show it rn, I've Turned off motion blur, film grain, and chromatic aberration in the settings, didn't help.

I played 119 hours of The Forest, and over 60% was alone. I had a blast, and spent the vast majority of that time base building honestly. I have about 15 hours in Sons of the Forest, but have mostly played it with a friend (and we've restarted multiple times for different reasons, on a 3 hr long new save now). I don't have a very good grasp of the "flow" of the game yet, and especially how viable base-building is, especially in solo player.

When trying to play the forest even running through the forest was so scary for me and I was always on edge. The cannibal sound effects were scarier too. I would not set foot in a cave in single player it was so scary and foreboding.

I played The forest when it was almost done, the main story was almost fully playable( the only thing that was missing, was the key to open the "final act" door") after i bought it, the final update was released like 7-8 months after, but the most important stuff was already released(correct me if i'm wrong)

Hi everyone, with the release date just 2 days away I just only noticed that it's not coming to ps5, luckily I have a gaming PC with a 1080....not the best machine but it gets the job done, would anyone have a rough idea how sons of the forest will preform on a 1080 ?

From the initial reviews I saw on this sub it really seemed like people went into it expecting it would be the Odyssey. A grand road trip with the mystery of how the Lion woke up is instantly revealed, he would gather up his fallen sons, meet up with Dante, beat up Angron, then travel accross the great rift to have a brodown with Roboute, and maybe slap Magnus and Mortarion in the face (or any other faction leader you can fit on the kitchen sink) on his way there! All while also meeting up with his current Sons and simultaneously sorting out that relationship along with everything else that people wanted to happen.

But Son of the Forest is not that kind of story and was never intended to be such. It is, more than anything, a character piece for the Lion. It's first and foremost goal is to explore and develop who Lion El'Jonson is when he finds himself in the current setting. Lost, alone, aged and without the guiding light he dedicated his life to there to give him a way forward. It is a story about him coming to terms with the way he feels wronged, and how he realizes he himself wronged others. Namely his "Fallen" sons, and the various ways they coped with their own wayward nature. With it exploring the theme of atonement and forgiveness, on both ends of that dynamic. ff782bc1db
