If you want premium audio immersion with active noise cancellation for meetings, choose Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling; if you need waterproof durability and situational awareness for sports, choose H2O Audio TRI 2. These two headphones serve fundamentally different masters: one is a sanctuary of silence designed for the office and living room, while the other is an open-air companion built to survive the pool, the trail, and the shower. I have analyzed the specifications and design philosophies behind both devices to help you decide which one belongs in your daily routine.
• Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling: Offers world-class Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Dolby Atmos spatial audio but lacks waterproofing and uses a closed-back over-ear design that isolates you from the environment. Best for professionals seeking immersive sound and focus during work or travel.
• H2O Audio TRI 2: Features IPX8 waterproofing and bone conduction technology for total situational awareness but provides no active noise cancellation and has a shorter battery life. Best for athletes who need to hear traffic and water while listening to music.
The Sonos Ace is engineered for the person who demands high fidelity and wants to shut out the world when they need to concentrate. Its primary strength lies in its ability to deliver an industry-leading Dolby Atmos experience with dynamic head tracking, creating a three-dimensional soundscape that feels incredibly spacious. If you are looking for an extra bass gaming headset for meetings or simply want to enjoy lossless audio over Bluetooth or USB-C, this device delivers on every front. The ANC capability is robust enough to neutralize external sounds, making it ideal for open offices, noisy commutes, or late-night listening sessions where distraction is not an option.
Comfort is another pillar of the Sonos Ace design. It features plush memory foam ear cushions wrapped in soft vegan leather, a configuration specifically noted as suitable for all-day wear. The "All-Day Comfort" claim is backed by the physical construction: the enclosure material is polycarbonate, and the earpiece shape is oval, ensuring a secure fit regardless of head shape or hairstyles. With up to 30 hours of battery life with ANC enabled, you can easily get through a full week of meetings without needing to recharge. Even better, the rapid charging feature means a mere three-minute charge grants up to three hours of playback, solving the anxiety of a dead battery before a critical call.

However, this product is not for everyone. It is a closed-back, over-ear headphone, meaning it will block out ambient noise completely. While this is great for focus, it is dangerous for outdoor activities like running or cycling where hearing traffic is essential. Additionally, while it connects via Bluetooth 5.4 with a range of 30 feet, it does not offer any form of waterproofing. You cannot take this into the rain, let alone submerge it in water. If your lifestyle involves frequent exposure to moisture or a need to stay aware of your surroundings, the Sonos Ace is likely the wrong tool for the job.
The H2O Audio TRI 2 exists in a completely different category, designed specifically for the athlete who refuses to compromise between safety and entertainment. This is a bone conduction, open-ear headphone that sits outside the ear canal, allowing sound to travel directly to the inner ear while leaving the ear canal open. This design provides full situational awareness, a critical feature for anyone running near traffic, cycling on busy streets, or swimming in open water. Unlike traditional headphones, the TRI 2 is 100% waterproof with an IPX8 rating, capable of withstanding submersion to 12 feet underwater for unlimited periods.
The versatility of the TRI 2 extends beyond just being waterproof. It includes a built-in MP3 player with 8 GB of memory, allowing you to store thousands of songs directly on the device. This is a game-changer for swimmers or runners who do not want to carry their phone. You can disconnect from Bluetooth entirely and rely on the internal storage, or use Bluetooth 5.3 to stream from your smartwatch or phone when you are above water. The multi-sport design makes it suitable for swimming, biking, running, paddling, surfing, and snowboarding. The case included in the bundle acts as a protective hardshell and a portable charger, capable of fully recharging the headphones twice on the go.
The trade-offs here are significant for audiophiles. Because it relies on bone conduction drivers rather than traditional dynamic drivers, the bass response is naturally different, and there is absolutely no active noise cancellation. In fact, the control method explicitly lists "None" for noise control, relying instead on the open-ear design to let the world in. Battery life is also more modest compared to the Sonos Ace, offering between 6 to 9 hours of play time depending on usage and volume. Charging takes approximately 2 hours, which is longer than the rapid charge feature of the Sonos Ace. If you prioritize deep, isolated bass and silent isolation over safety and water resistance, this product will not meet your expectations.
• Best for meetings and focus → Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling. The active noise cancellation and memory foam ear cushions create a dedicated workspace anywhere, blocking out distractions effectively.
• Best for swimming and water sports → H2O Audio TRI 2. The IPX8 waterproof rating allows for unlimited submersion, whereas the Sonos Ace cannot handle water exposure.
• Best for battery longevity → Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling. With up to 30 hours of playback, it outlasts the H2O Audio TRI 2, which offers 6 to 9 hours.
• Best for situational awareness → H2O Audio TRI 2. The open-ear bone conduction design ensures you never miss important environmental sounds like sirens or voices.
• Best for audio fidelity and immersion → Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling. Dolby Atmos, dynamic head tracking, and lossless audio streaming provide a richer, more detailed soundstage.
• Best for portability without a phone → H2O Audio TRI 2. The built-in 8 GB MP3 player lets you listen offline, eliminating the need to pair with a smartphone during workouts.
• Best for comfort during long sessions → Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling. The plush memory foam and vegan leather are designed for all-day wear, unlike the open-fit design of the TRI 2.
• Best for rapid charging → Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling. A 3-minute charge gives 3 hours of playback, whereas the H2O Audio TRI 2 requires about 2 hours to fully charge.
If I were buying a pair of headphones specifically for meetings, the choice is clear: I would buy the Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling. The ability to isolate myself with world-class Active Noise Cancellation and the comfort provided by the memory foam ear cushions make it the superior tool for professional environments. The lossless audio quality and 30-hour battery life ensure I am never interrupted by poor sound or a dead battery during a long conference day. While the H2O Audio TRI 2 is an incredible piece of engineering for athletes, its lack of noise cancellation and open-ear design simply cannot compete when the goal is focused, high-quality communication.
The Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling is excellent for loud offices because its active noise cancellation neutralizes external sounds, providing a quiet space for concentration. The H2O Audio TRI 2 is not suitable for this purpose as its open-ear design allows all surrounding noise to pass through.
No, the Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling is not waterproof and should not be submerged in water. Only the H2O Audio TRI 2 is rated IPX8 and can be used for swimming and underwater activities.
The Sonos Ace Noise Cancelling offers up to 30 hours of battery life with ANC enabled, significantly outlasting the H2O Audio TRI 2, which provides between 6 to 9 hours of play time.
No, the H2O Audio TRI 2 comes bundled with a protective hardshell Charging Case that also serves as a power bank to recharge the headphones twice. The Sonos Ace includes a fabric carrying case but does not function as a charger.
