Seung Yoon (Sonny) Lee is a Ph.D. student at the mmWave Antennas and Arrays Laboratory in Georgia Institute of Technology. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Communication Engineering from Korea University, Seoul, Korea, in 2016, followed by an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Pohang, Korea, in 2018.

From July 2018 to Aug 2020, he worked as a Semiconductor/RF Engineer at SK Hynix, Icheon, Korea, as a Device Modeling Engineer participating in numerous cutting-edge SPICE memory model extraction and designing on-chip Inductors for high-speed memory products. From September 2020 to July 2022, he worked for Samsung Research, Seoul, Korea, as an RF/Antenna Engineer conducting Sub-THz Antenna (test patterns) design, Antenna Probe station equipment build, and GSG-probe base antenna measurement. Additionally, he designed a mmWave Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) for upcoming next-generation communication technologies [J3].

He has published 3 international journals, 1 domestic journal, and 5 international conference papers and served as the inventor of 16 patents related to his research topics. His advisor Prof. Wonbin Hong and he proposed the world's first novel concept of Antenna-on-Display (AoD) [C3], which has been studied and verified for millimeter-wave 5G communication applications [J2]. Additionally, he developed inductors for High-Speed Memory Products for the first time in SK Hynix, using state-of-the-art DRAM technology, and his paper on an on-chip inductor was published at the 7th SK Hynix conference. He has been awarded several honors, including the CREATION Award from Georgia Institute of Technology, 2023, the Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award from POSTECH, 2019, the 1st Prize Best Paper Student Award from the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation, 2018, and three times Semester Highest Honors from Korea University.
