My Civic Experience 

Boards & Commissions:

Stoneman Village Board – Former President                                                                  September 2015 – September 2024

Stoneman Village's mission is to provide safe and affordable housing for low-income seniors and disabled citizens.  During my 9 years on this Board, for four years I served as Chair of the Project Services and Food Services committees, then Vice President and then I served as the first minority woman Board President.  On the Stoneman Board we dealt with budgets, tax credits, maintenance, and repair issues.  We also dealt with reviewing staff salary ranges, running an on-site dining facility and resident safety and security concerns. 

City of Pittsburg Advisory Commissions-Commissioner

2021- Present

I currently serve on the Pittsburg Community Advisory Commission (2023- present)  as a Commissioner.  Prior to that, I served two years on the City of Pittsburg Youth Advisory Commission as an adult mentor. The Community Advisory Commission serves as a liaison to the Pittsburg City Council.  We connect with constituents and transform their concerns into actionable policy proposals.

Bart Police Citizen Review Board (BPCRB) – Vice President

2023 – Present

Members of the BPCRB work to increase the public’s confidence in BART’s policing services by reviewing, recommending, and monitoring the implementation of changes to police policies, procedures, and practices.  We receive citizen complaints of on-duty police misconduct.

Board & Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI)

2024 Alumni graduate

BCLI provides public policy training for area community advocates and then connects these emerging leaders to commissions to advance community-led solutions.  My BCLI training has taught me that some issues can be solved with resources and other issues must be solved with policy changes.

Pittsburg Unified School District, Student Attendance Review Board (SARB)

January 2025 to Present

I recently joined the Pittsburg Unified School District’s, Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).  SARB meets with parents and youth to implement a plan to get truant students back in school and on target to graduate.  Then plan can include referrals to counseling, tutoring and even housing assistance referrals.

Racial Justice Oversight Board

February 2025 to Present

The Racial Justice Oversight Board (RJOB) is a multi-agency advisory established by the County Board of Supervisors to oversee the implementation of the recommendations made by the Racial Justice Task Force  to reduce racial disparities in the criminal and juvenile justice system. 

350 Contra Costa Action

March 2025 - Present

The 350 Contra Costa Action, is a grassroots climate movement that advocates for socially equitable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on local action, and promoting a transition to renewable energy and ending fossil fuel dependence in Contra Costa County.  They prioritize the needs of communities most impacted by industrial pollution and climate change.  They educate city and county decision-makers about best practices and advocate for new policies.  They also cultivate relationships with state lawmakers to influence their votes on climate legislation.
