Sonic the Hedgehog: Music from the Motion Picture is the score album for the 2020 film of the same name. The score, which was composed by Tom Holkenborg, was released on February 14, 2020, by Paramount Music in both digital and physical formats. Riff Raff, who had a role in the film but was cut, appears on the soundtrack.[1]

As a part of promotions, an original song, "Boom" by X Ambassadors, appears on the soundtrack, the single was released on January 24, 2020, by Atlantic Records.[5] "Speed Me Up" by American musicians Wiz Khalifa, Lil Yachty, Ty Dolla $ign, and Sueco The Child received over 15 million streams,[6] along with 1.8 billion views for the "Speed Me Up" TikTok challenge.[7][8] "Friends" by Hyper Potions, which previously appeared as the opening theme of Sonic Mania, also appears in the film, along with arrangements of tracks from Masato Nakamura's score for the original Sonic the Hedgehog (1991).[9]

Calling it as a loud, vibrant and fun soundtrack, Zanobard reviews assigned 7/10 and wrote "Sonic The Hedgehog is very different from Holkenborg's usual work, but that doesn't stop it from being highly entertaining, fun-filled work of art."[11] The Sonic Stadium's review stated "The soundtrack is full of standout compositions and demonstrates why Holkenberg is so prolific in Hollywood. But, there is however some element of frustration that Holkenberg has not leant on Sonic's rich musical back catalogue, and although some chiptune elements are deployed, they share no commonality with anything from the Megadrive or Genesis of which fans would be familiar with."[12]

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie soundtrack features a few on-the-nose song choices as well as a couple tunes lifted from the video games themselves. Starring Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, James Marsden as his best friend, Tom Wachowski, and Jim Carrey as the evil Dr. Robotnik, Sonic the Hedgehog is only the latest movie adapting a popular video game character for the big screen.

Based on SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, the film loosely adapts the premise of the games in that Sonic is a blue hedgehog who can run at super sonic speeds. In the film, he comes to Earth to escape a threat back on his home world, traveling with the help of magic rings that can open portals to other planets. The rings are one of many elements the films includes from the video games, but they're tweaked in order to fit the movie's narrative. Still, while not the most accurate of video game adaptations, Sonic the Hedgehog does manage to perfectly capture the chaotic energy of its star.

In the film's final act, Sonic again moves at super speed through a scene where Tom and Maddie are falling from the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid building and Robotnik fires a barrage of missiles. Kelly Finnigin's "Catch Me I'm Falling" plays through the scene, but Sonic fans will also recognize the little tune the hedgehog plays when banging on the frozen missiles as the level complete music from the video games. Once Robotnik is defeated and life returns to normal in Green Hills, Montana, Jon Batiste's jazz rendition of the game's "Green Hill Zone" song is heard. And finally, "Speed Me Up" by Wiz Khalifa,Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty, and Sueco the Child - a song written specifically for Sonic the Hedgehog and containing many Easter eggs to the game series - plays over the movie's credits.

The Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 soundtracks for Genesis were composed by Masato Nakamura in 1990 and 1991. Nakamura is a member of the Japanese pop group Dreams Come True, which isn't famous in the west, but went on to become one of the bestselling Japanese acts of all time - it's sort of like if the original Mario tunes were written by one of the guys from Abba.

This game has some really killer tunes in my opinion (I get that the rock isn't for everyone), and it kind of saddens me how so many fans label the soundtrack as forgettable, saying they couldn't remember anything besides Westopolis after playing. A lot of the tunes were stuck in my head after my first play through, but maybe I just have weird taste.

The soundtrack isn't bad, but it has very few songs that stand out to me. It mostly just comes across a bunch of melodramatic metalcore or royalty free industrial/techno music. In fact, the only two that are really amazing to me are Death Ruins and Sky Troops. Other than that, the only other track that stands out are Cryptic Castle and the menu themes, the multiplayer menu screen especially. The vocal themes are sort of generic-sounding to me and aren't really my cup of tea.

I don't think it's one of the best soundtracks in the series, but it certainly has some good tunes. I really like I Am, Digital Circuit, and Sky Troops. And I've recently been listening to Chosen One quite a bit, it's one of my new favorite vocal themes in the series. It's actually the only Sonic song I've purchased so far.

While I love the songs I Am...All of Me and All Hail Shadow (which is actually one of my favorite songs), and enjoy the music for Space Gadget, I must agree with those who say that the game's soundtrack is anything but memorable.

I'm in the camp that's not too much of a fan. Although I think Lava Shelter and (yes) Westopolis have merits, even if you have to hear the latter like sixty times if you are looking for the various endings. On first listening after a while away from the game Westopolis is a good piece. I think most of the aversion to this soundtrack is the nu-metal aspect which they used to give personality to Shadow's anti hero role, but like the game as a whole is just taken as a reminder of how much of a flop this game was along with the absolute lack of understanding Sega showed with a gun-toting hedgehog. Despite that however my favorite songs in the game are from the nu-metal bands. Specifically Julien-K's ending songs, which I think are in the neutral-bad endings. I don't remember too well. The waking up song, from the ending where Shadow believes he is an android and teams up with Omega. Also my favorite ending in the game. Androids, man.

While I enjoyed the soundtrack, it probably isn't among one of my favorites of that era of Sonic games. There just isn't enough variety and too much of it just kind of blurs together, making not too many tracks stand out. A few tracks I can even remember how they sound without popping in one of the CDs is Westopolis (because you hear it every time you start up a new game) and the 2P versus mode theme and that's only because it's a remix of Radical Highway (one of my favorite Sonic tracks). It's not bad by any means, just not as memorable as some other Sonic games' soundtracks.

Visually the stage is identical to Black Comet, and contains many of the same set pieces. But the music for each stage is completely different in tone. In Final Haunt it's quite upbeat, as this is where Sonic and co are driving the Black Arms away. Black Comet is the opposite, cause it sees the Black Arms bringing GUN to the brink of destruction. I don't really like ShTH's soundtrack, in fact I'd let it as one of the series' worst, but I did like that sometimes there was a really good reflection of the story events in the music. They had to put some thought into it beyond just the levels appearances because of all the reused environments. You can hear the differences in atmosphere pretty well in Lost Impact and The Doom too.

Michael Jackson was literally at the top of his game in the '90s. In celebration of the 31st anniversary of 1991 game Sonic the Hedgehog, game creator Yuki Naka confirmed that The King of Pop wrote music for the 1994 Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.

Sonic Lost World, released for the Wii U in October 2013, is unique among the mainline games for being the only one without any vocal themes. However, this does not take away from the musical quality of this soundtrack. There are many dramatic and beautiful scores, such as the title theme, "Wonder World," and "Sea Bottom Segue."

The game was highly influenced by the Mario series and mimics the typical locale layout seen in games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Therefore, the music was made to complement the varied locations, from Desert Ruins and Frozen Factory to Silent Forest and Lava Mountain, thus creating a diverse classical soundtrack.

A unique feature is how the typical 2 Act level structure is broken into Day and Night levels. This results in very different musical styles being used even for the same location, adding to the diversity of the soundtrack. With no two pieces sounding the same, the grandeur of Sonic Unleashed's OST is undeniably brilliant, stirring, and emanates emotion.
