Singh's work in film[9] encompassed playback singing for productions such as Arth, Saath Saath and Premgeet. He composed all of the songs for the latter, as well as for the TV serial Mirza Ghalib that was based on the life of the eponymous poet, Mirza Ghalib.[citation needed]

In 1990, Vivek Singh (Jagjit Singh and Chitra's son) died in a road accident at the age of 20. This came as a profound shock to Jagjit and Chitra Singh. They gave up music for a full year after the death. At the end of that period, Jagjit returned slowly to music, but Chitra announced her retirement and declared that she would not sing or record any more songs.

New Delhi: When ghazal king Jagjit Singh passed away on 10 October 2011, fans the world over mourned him to the tune of one of his most poignant songs, Chitthi Na Koi Sandes, Jaane Woh Kaun Sa Desh, Jahan Tum Chale Gaye.

Of these songs, three were composed by Jagjit himself, whereas the one from Pinjar was a re-arrangement of his tune in a different manner. And though Jagjit composed a lot of his non-film ghazals himself, one must credit his ability to work with different music directors in films.

Film music was only one part of his repertoire. In the latter stage of his career, he released many devotional songs. But ghazals remained his forte, whether it was on early albums with Chitra, the album Sajda with Lata Mangeshkar, the Ghalib project with Gulzar or the numerous solo gems he released.

After the ghazal singer passed away in 2011, he left a void which we might never be able to fill. But we can always go back to his rich lineage of songs, which will live for much longer than our lifetimes. We compiled this playlist of 15 ghazals by Jagjit Singh that will never get old.

With his unconventional yet bewitching voice, he ruled in the world of Ghazal Singers till we lost the maestro on 10 October 2011, at Lilavati Hospital, in Mumbai. Although we lost a great gem of the singing world but he had left his legacy and his voice as his timeless songs and on his 72nd birth Anniversary we are reviving the memory of Jagjit Singh.

Jagjit did not only took Ghazals to the masses but also touched unprecedented heights in the world of music. We have lost him but his songs will always be immortal and he will be missed for his immense contribution to the world of music.

Javed Akhtar recently revealed a piece of information about himself at a FICCI event in Kolkata. He disclosed that he once wrote a massively popular song at the very last moment, and only under ten minutes. Akhtar also mentioned that it is one of the most popularly known songs. DYK JAVED AKHTAR WROTE A SONG IN UNDER 10 MINUTES?

Javed Akhtar takes credit for giving Bollywood the most melodious songs. Recently at a FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry) event in Kolkata, the celebrated lyricist recalled an anecdote and shared that he wrote Tum Ko Dekha in nine minutes! The love ballad was sung by Jagjit Singh.

The lyricist also mentioned that his wife, Shabana Azmi, frequently jokes about producers not paying him enough after they knew how long he takes to write his songs. He also seems very active on the Internet for his unusual comments and remarks about Bollywood and non-Bollywood stories.

The song Tum Ko Dekha To Yeh Khayaal is from the film Saath Saath, which featured Neena Gupta, Farooq Sheikh, Satish Shah, and Deepti Naval in pivotal roles. The film was released in 1982. Akhtar wrote songs like Jashn-e-Bahara, Do Pal, Main Agar Kahoon, Dil Dhadakne Do, and much more.

Jagjit Singh, king of ghazals, has often been credited for bringing ghazal from the closed-door elite gatherings to be one with the masses. But, very few singers could express grief through his poetry and songs the way he could.

I am not sure if many of you have heard this one, it is called as tappe' by jagjit singh, actually tappe is a traditional Punjabi word and usually is a two liner which was sung in weddings etc to tease each other.

Jagjit singh used to sing it in most of his concerts and this one with chitra was very popular and is very funny and even now in weddings people pull each others leg with these tappes
