As a response to the COVID-19 crisis, Grays Harbor College and the Bishop Center for the Performing Arts will present Broadway show tunes of loss, hope, and love. The songs mourn normal days gone by, yearn for one day more, and anticipate many happier days ahead.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Songs for Another Day will be an experiment in remote rehearsal and performance. Intrepid cast members will be embarking on a journey into territories where theatre meets video. Seeking performers of all ages and genders with a strong ear for music.

Performers will video themselves lip-synching to their own recorded voices in their homes and neighborhoods. Several songs will be taken out of context from their original shows, allowing many roles to be cast non-traditionally. Choreography will be dictated by the opportunities and limitations found in each space. Costumes will be largely drawn from personal wardrobes.

A compilation of these recordings will be shared over Facebook Live, hosted by the director and choreographer, Dr. Andrew Gaines who will introduce each song. The performance will conclude with a live Q&A.

AUDITION GUIDELINES

Auditioners should select one song and use the provided “backing track” played on a separate device. You may audition for a second song after everyone has had a chance to sing once, time-permitting.

Auditioners will be heard on a first come, first served basis. Fellow auditioners will be welcome to watch each other’s auditions. Note that the session will be recorded only for the purposes of casting.

In this new arrangement for the Broadway revival, Jesus preaches that society has within its power the ability to create a truly "civilized" community. It begins by making a choice. This song will likely feature you singing around downtown Aberdeen.

(Any gender, 21+)

Marius' solo after the battle. Sitting alone at the café, knowing he's the only one to survive, other than Jean Valjean, he regrets and reminisces the loss of his friends. This song would ideally be performed at your kitchen table.

Cornelius publically shares the lessons he’s learned about love by expressing his feelings for Irene Molloy. You might recognize it from Disney’s WALL-E!

Amos Hart is the disillusioned husband of accused murderess Roxie Hart. He laments to her lawyer Billy Flynn that people can walk right by him without even acknowledging that he even exists—just like plastic film (aka cellophane). This song will likely be performed outside in your neighborhood or downtown Aberdeen.

Mrs. Lovett has taken in young Tobias, who was homeless, to be her helper. Tobias expresses suspicions about Sweeney Todd and wants to protect Mrs. Lovett, a mother figure. Mrs. Lovett is revealed to be not as nice as Tobias had initially thought. This song will be performed in a bedroom, possibly two of them. Accents will not be used.
