A Place of Faith, Peace, and Sacred History
Namyang Shrine is a revered Catholic pilgrimage site in South Korea, dedicated to honoring the noble faith of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their belief during the Byeong-in Persecution (1866–1873).
Historical records, including the Record of Byeong-in Martyrs, document the arrest of faithful believers in the Namyang region. Among them, four martyrs—Philip Jeong, the couple Philip Kim and Maria Park, and Thomas Kim Hong-seo—remained steadfast in their faith until the end, gloriously accepting martyrdom at this site alongside many unnamed martyrs.
Rediscovered through archaeological excavation in 1983, the site underwent extensive restoration and was officially proclaimed as "Our Lady of the Rosary Shrine" on October 7, 1991.
Today, Namyang Shrine serves as a peaceful sanctuary for both pilgrims and visitors. Nestled in a serene natural setting, it features a majestic cathedral designed by world-renowned architect Mario Botta, a peaceful Rosary walking trail, and the Way of the Cross—offering a quiet space for prayer, reflection, and spiritual healing.
