PhD Opening in Computational Geomechanics and AI in Geohazards Engineering

Dr. Song is actively recruiting talented Ph.D. students who will work on the broad area of theoretical and computational saturated and unsaturated geomechanics/poromechanics and geotechnical/civil engineering, and AI in Geohazards Engineering. The applications include, but not limited to, extreme large deformation, soil-structure interaction, multiphysics failure mechanism of variably saturated soils under static and dynamic loading, subsurface multiphase flow/contaminant transport, climate change on geotechnical/civil infrastructure, energy, environmental and coastal geotechnics, and geo-hazard engineering.

Basic requirements:

(1) Knowledge of advanced geomechanics/poromechanics/solid mechanics (knowledge of AI/machine learning/deep learning algorithms is a plus).

(2) Knowledge of advanced scientific computing (e.g., FEM/FEM-based methods, MD, CFD, DEM, and meshfree methods).

(3) Programming skills in C/C++, FORTRAN, Python, etc.

For admission with full financial support, please submit your official application, and inform Dr. Song (xysong@ufl.edu) when it is complete for a timely review.
