  • Somsubhra Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor in soil science at the Agricultural and Food Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He was awarded various prestigious fellowships including the Australia Awards Fellowship from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has undergraduate and M.Sc degrees from BCKV and PAU in India and PhD degree in Agronomy (soil science emphasis) from Louisiana State University, USA. He started his career as a post-doctoral researcher at West Virginia University, USA. He joined Vivekananda University, Kolkata as assistant professor in 2011. After four years of academic assignments at Vivekananda University, he moved to UBKV as assistant professor in 2015. Since, 2016, he is serving with Agricultural and Food Engineering Department, IITKgp as faculty. He is passionate about the use of proximal and non-invasive sensors for soil and water management. He has more than 40 international journal publications and won several awards. He is currently serving as the member of the editorial board of Geoderma, the global journal of soil science.
