Dr Somnath Mahato is currently working as Project Scientist III at INSAT Automatic Weather Station (AWS) Lab, o/o Climate Research & Services, India Meteorological Department, Government of India. His research expertise spans Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), Satellite and Radar Communication, Satellite and Radar Meteorology, and Geodesy. With a strong academic foundation and extensive research experience, he has made significant contributions to satellite navigation and geospatial sciences.
Dr. Mahato completed his Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, West Bengal University of Technology, in 2012. He then completed a Master of Technology in the same field from The University of Burdwan in 2014. His academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Sikkim in 2023, where his research focused on Multi-Constellation Global Navigation Satellite System in Standalone and Real Time Kinematic Operation towards Enhanced Position Solution Accuracy.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mahato has been actively involved in research at prestigious institutions. From August 2017 to March 2023, he worked at the GNSS Laboratory, The University of Burdwan, contributing to the enhancement of real-time position solution accuracy using GNSS. He later joined the National Centre for Geodesy at IIT Kanpur from April 2023 to July 2023, further advancing his research in geospatial science.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he has received several prestigious accolades, including the Young Scientist Awards, the IEEE Young Professional of the Year (2025), and multiple best paper awards from renowned technical organisations. His work continues to drive advancements in satellite meteorology and geodesy, supporting critical scientific and technological developments.
