Research Directions: Geospatial Ecology and Informatics (GECO)
GECO (Geospatial Ecology and Informatics) integrates Earth observation, geospatial analytics, and Geo-intelligence to advance understanding of dynamic ecosystem processes and climate-driven disturbances. The GECO will develop multi-scale, data-driven approaches to monitor ecosystems in near real time, predict disturbance behavior, and assess environmental impacts across landscapes. By combining field observations, remote sensing, and computational modeling, GECO generates validated, actionable insights into fire-climate-human interactions and broader Earth system dynamics. Through interdisciplinary research and decision-support tools, GECO aims to enhance resilience in ecosystems and communities facing increasing environmental change.
