SPC Org (SPCO) is an independent organization unaffiliated with SomePC that cares about laptop repairability. They examine the design of laptops and assign them a rating based on the ease of repair and lack of enshittification. Someindustries does not fund the organization.
Note that the ratings are mainly for laptops, which are conventionally less repairable than desktop computers. If a full-size desktop computer is less repairable than a laptop, then something has gone horribly wrong.
SPCO Repairability Ratings are as follows:
Repairable+++++
The most repairable laptop ever. No laptop has ever been awarded this rating.
Repairable++++
The second most repairable laptop ever. SomePC OmniBook laptops are awarded this rating.
Repairable+++
The third most repairable laptop ever. Thicker SomePC laptops are typically awarded this rating.
Repairable++
The fourth most repairable laptop ever. SomePC Apex and NovaBook laptops are typically awarded this rating.
Repairable+
The fifth most repairable laptop ever. The SomePC Apex and NovaBook laptops not awarded the above rating are usually awarded this rating.
Baseline Repairable
Laptops awarded this rating are repairable to an extent. Memory and storage can be upgraded, and parts are available. The laptop was not designed with repairability as a priority, but it isn't actively unrepairable to an excessive degree. SomePC Luna Fold laptops are given this rating.
Bad
Laptops awarded this rating are not very repairable. Memory and storage may be soldered and unreplaceable. Parts may have limited availability or be costly. The laptop was not designed with repairability in mind. Many cheap laptops like Chromebooks fall into this category, but not when made by Someindustries of course, no way.
Malice
Laptops with this rating are actively unrepairable, out of malice. The laptop was designed against being repairable. Many parts may be unreplaceable, expensive, or unavailable. Technologies may be proprietary for no reason. Most Apple laptops made in the last 13 years fall into this category.
They're fine I guess?
Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more.
